Hi...
if you keep the battery idle for long time you will lose charge from it. that is the nature of the battery.it always loses its charge. if you are using your car once in a month then remove the battery from the car and keepp it in a box and keep aside. when ever you want to use your car put back it and use it. this option may be the better one

You may have a light that stays on of a very minor short. You have to put an amp meter on the battery cable and then start pulling fuses until it reads no draw.

It can be a real pain to troubleshoot. Or use a battery keeper to maintain charge when you are not using it.

Even with the engine off a small amount of power is 'pulled' from the battery. I'd suggest you periodically start the car and let it run for a short time. This will keep the battery charged and also pump oil to important internal engine parts.

Modern sealed type batteries fail in just this manner, I have seen cars that the owner got gas and went to start and doing, it was the battery. Have the battery tested by any parts store that offers the free service, AutoZone is one but there are many that do the testing free of charge. Also clean the battery cable and the try before installing a new battery with a wire brush and baking soda in warm water solution.

Hi, Car batteries lose their power over time if not used or charged. If you store your car in winter, take the battery out and give it a slow charge every month. (just like you do with a motorcycle battery). Or, start the motor and let it run 15-20 minutes every couple weeks. I would recommend doing that anyway to keep the engine oil from draining completely out of your bearings and possibly siezing up motor upon startup a few months later or bearing/engine damage due to excess wear on dry bearings. Thats the nature of the beast, there is no cure for it. Mike

I own a 1997 Mazda Miata MX-5, and have power in the "run" key position, but when i turn all the way to start the engine, nothing happens. I have 11.7 VDC from the battery so it is charged.

Sounds like the starter relay or the solenoid is on the start itself is badSome of the MX-5 also had a fuse for the ignition, check that also.

Mazda Miata 2001 car problem

Batteries can have a dead cell in them, meaning there is sufficient charge to run accessories and the "check glass" may look fine (dark green in color on maintenance free batteries), but one dead cell in the battery indicates replacement time.
