Question about Audi TT

1 Answer

A few days ago, I found 3" of water in my car. Brought it straight to Audi, Naples. Apparently, the back window had unglued so all the storms that we have been having flooded the car. Now I find out that my extended warranty does not cover convertible tops(!), nor any subsequent damage, and my own car insurance may not cover me if they decide it is" normal wear and tear". How could this be "normal"? Yes, I live in Florida, and we have lots of sun and rain at this time of year. Why wouldn't Audi give us a heads up that the roof may be weak? Or needs to be inspected every so often? Or is this one of their best-kept secrets? Never mind that I totally love this car and have kept it in such pristine shape, that many have wanted to buy it from me. Not only am I upset for these obvious reasons, but when repaired, will it be " as good as new"?

Here few comments about water leak in softop's Audi:
* Get yourself down to halfords and get an autoglym soft top kit, contains a bottle of cleaner, a bottle of waterproofer and a sponge. Follow the instructions and give the roof a clean then give a good coating of the waterproofer and that should do the job! The roofs do 'seep' through if they are not treated regularly (every 6 months or so) and you should get 2 treatments from the kit for 20 quid. Worked on mine though mine was on the drivers side. Other thing to do is clean and treat all of the rubber seals.

* Or if your feeling flush buy the Renovo Kit. In fact I did mine with this over the weekend ready for the winter. I personally think it's better then the Auto Glym kit but then it is double the cost! Renovo-canvas-hood-care
Check that your windows are shutting all the way up once you shut the doors.

* get a hose pipe oout and find where its leeking from first, spray upwards on the windows, not getting the roof wet, iliminate one thing at a time, its more than likely the window seals. if nothing from there, then carry on round to the front seal above windscreen, again rule it out, still nothing then soak the roof. Cant sea it seeping in the roof, must be a seal in my opinion. The comments from the two guys above are spot on, but id find the spot first. the cleaning/ sealing kits they mention are ideal, cant comment on the one speedy mentioned as ive not used it, i use the autoglym one and it does a great job.

Hope helps.

The damage to the top cannot be fixed.
My real question is, who is inherently to blame?
There were no maintenance guidelines, no suggestions, no inspections.
A new Audi top will cost around $4,000. Probably a 1 year warranty.
Much electrical + inside other damages of $1900.
My personal car insurance has just agreed to pay for all interior damage, but not the top!
Where is the logic? Will my TT ever be worth spending on and keeping? Ever be "as good as new"?
Does a convertible of this expense and reputation allow the company to wash their hands of an
obvious weakness that many others have experienced, and not have protected and ensured a high-end
roadster to be viable for more than 4 years?

    In such
situations, the best solution is to negotiate with the representative of
the mark, before the insurance involved.
    If you do not see
any solution, and omitted some indication on the periodic maintenance
that should be given to these parts of your vehicle to avoid
deterioration, there is definitely a responsibility of the
    representative TT.

sounds like you have a grounding issue possibly a main grounding location. inconsistant grounding of the vehicles control module will cause erratic behaviours. check under the hood for ground locations containing multiple grounds at 1 bolt location.if different "experts" have attempted repair and failed chances are they are all looking in the wrong place.dash{interior of vehicle}..actual cause.{egine compartment or under side of vehicle..ie...ground locations.}good luck and safe motoring:>

If you mean the bottom pulley on the crank, I would suspect the rubber is coming unglued from the steel and so it should be replaced. If you mean the main pulley where the fan is mounted I would look to see if maybe the 4 bolts there have worked loose. Failing that the water pump is most likely bad and will need replacing. Hope this helps.

I have a 92 audi 100 that floods with water when it rains but we have not been able to figure out where the water is coming in from because nothing but the carpet itself gets wet..2 inches wet.. any ideas...

Check if the bottom of the door panels are wet. There is a plastic sheet under the door panel to keep water out. If its ripped or become unglued around the bottom it can cause water to come in. They need to be sealed perfectly to work.

Audi A4 "left dipped headlight" problem

this most likely caused by a poor headlight ground, check around the headlight for any loose wiring that is screwed to the sheet metal of the car under the hood behind the headlight.
