Start by checking fuel pressure, when an engine sits so long, some time the elec. fuel pump, which is in the gas tank, will lock up, on top of the engine, look for the injector's fuel rail, it will have a valve to check fuel pressure, look's like a tire valve stem, where you put air, the valve will be to the rear of the engine on the top on the rail,

This is a fuel injection engine only, fuel pressure should be about 45psi, if you have spark at the spark plugs and good fuel pressure, the injector are clog with varnish from the fuel sitting so long, injector will have to come out and clean or replace, if you have bad fuel pressure, replace fuel pump, gas tank will have to be drop to replace fuel pump, clean gas tank at that time also, if this was helpful, don't forget to rate me, thanks.

Hi,
Is it getting gas and fire?
If so and you don't have fresh gas in the tank, I would suspect some bad gas after sitting for 7 years.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

    I'm pretty basic...
To check fire, you can either remove a spark plug and snap the wire back onto it and see if it is sparking while starting (or any spark plug to use for this test if you have one laying around). Don't hold it in your hand... ha. Just lay it down in a visible location as you crank on the starter. This is a quick way to check for fire.
To check for gas, If you have a carburator, remove the breather top and work the throttle to see (or hear) if it's squirting gas into the carb.
If both tests are good, I'd add some fresh gas to the tank and try to crank it again. Old gas loses it's potency.
    Good luck!

Hey Ray sounds like starter selonoid look on fire wall it will have a cable coming from battery and on other side a cable going to starter , with the key on ,in netural use a jump wire to touch each of the cables (the one from the battery and the one going to starter) ,if it cranks and or starts that's your problem and its easy to change . if not sure of wiring take a photo of them .

There is a 1996 GMC Safary sitting in a driveway for 3 years, It was running before, what is the safest way to make it run again?

Depends if you kept fluids in it. If so Just try to turn it over with a new battery. You old one probably is no good. After a few turns if you have new gas in tank, it should start. I bought a Ford Ranger that sat up for 3 years and it cranked right up.

YOU REPLACED BATTERY.BUT CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE RIGHT COLD CRANKING AMPS.AND CHECK BATTERY CABLES.MAKE SURE THEY ARE CLEAN AND TIGHT.IF BATTERY CABLES OVER 10 YEARS OLD REPLACE THEM.MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING RIGHT VISCOSITY MOTOR OIL.YOU SHOULD BE USING 5W - 30 ENGINE OIL IN COLDER CLIMATES.IF YOUR OIL TOO THICK IT WILL CAUSE ENGINE DRAG WHEN CRANKING IN COLD WEATHER.

i hope you changed all the fluids. New oil, coolent, trans. oil and draind all the old fuel. if not the fuel injecters need to be cleaned but first check to see if the crankshaft can be turned if you can you may save that engine.

1997 chevy blazer s10 cranks but wont start

You have a new battery and it cranks. Turning over is cranking. You are saying it won't start after sitting for six months? What is an old mechanic? Was the cable installed at home during the one year layoff? It sounds as though you failed to hold the old mechanic responsible for installing the correct cable or adjusting the one you have ,so it will start. You have a safety switch issue by the sound of it. Make sure you have the right cable and then find out how to install and if applicable, adjust properly

I have a 1988 ford ranger that I bought for $150. It had been sitting outside for 2 years. When I went to start it, it did satrt with jump. But once I disconnected the jumper cables it died. Did that...

First pour some gas down the intake(just a small sipp)and crank it,if it starts you have a fuel distribution problem. If it dont, there is an ignition problem.

1994 Ford Ranger: just bought. Was starting right up. Yesterday, it would crank, but wouldn't start. Spark plugs (has 8 of them)? Son maybe flooded? I let it sit for a couple hours, still would not...

check and make sure you have spark coming out of at least 1 of the plugs when someone cranks it, then make sure you have gas getting through the injectors, also look at every fuse in the truck inside and under the hood to make sure 1 isnt popped. let me know what you find
