Haynes lists the entire procedure for setting the position of the cams etc. Positioning of these is critical...If off by even a slight amount the valves WILL strike the pistons and destroy the engine. DO NOT use any parts made by SA Gear...They have no quality control and will deny any claim made against them. Make sure that the chain guides are in good condition and that the chain tensioner is operating properly.

The 1.6l is an interference engine and if the timing belt let loose there is a good chance the pistons met the valves and bent them. the camshaft and crankshaft has a small dot on them they go dot to dot
with the crankshaft dot being at 12:00 o clock and camshaft dot at 6:00 o clock
