Included below are the the Chevrolet / GMC: Truck/Van 350 = 5.7L and the Chevrolet Car 350 = 5.7L. Both have the same Firing Order and Cylinder Layout. They differ only with the Distributor Layout

If you are talking about a 350 Chevrolet (GM) engine, the #1 plug is at the drivers side front. To find the position on the cap, turn the engine 'till the timing mark on the lower pulley points to 0 on the scale, then check rotor position in the distributor. If it's pointing towards the firewall, make one more turn. The firing order goes in the direction the rotor turns when cranking the engine over. 18436572.

How to remove distributor on 1994 nissan pathfinder


Hi there:
Check this removal procedure (See Figures 1 through 5)

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Unfasten the retaining clips (only remove the coil wire if necessary) and lift the distributor cap straight off. It will be easier to install the distributor if the spark plug wiring is left connected to the cap. If the plug wires must be removed from the cap, mark their positions to aid in installation.
  3. Remove the dust cover and mark the position of the rotor relative to the distributor body; then mark the position of the distributor body relative to the engine block.
  4. Detach the harness assembly connector.
  5. Remove the pinch-bolt and lift the distributor straight out, away from the engine. The rotor and body are marked so that they can be returned to the position from which they were removed. Do not turn or disturb the engine (unless absolutely necessary) after the distributor assembly has been removed.

INSTALLATIONTiming Not Disturbed

  1. Insert the distributor in the block and align ALL matchmarks made during removal.
  2. Engage the distributor driven gear with the distributor drive.
  3. Install the distributor clamp and secure it with the pinch-bolt.
  4. Install the distributor cap and fasten the harness electrical connector.
  5. If necessary, install the spark plug wires and coil wire.
  6. Start the engine. Check the timing and adjust it if necessary.

Timing Disturbed
  1. It is necessary to place the No. 1 cylinder in the firing position to correctly install the distributor. To locate this position, the ignition timing marks on the crankshaft front pulley can be used.
  2. Remove the No. 1 cylinder spark plug. Turn the crankshaft until the piston in the No. 1 cylinder is moving up on the compression stroke. This can be determined by placing your thumb over the spark plug hole and feeling the air being forced out of the cylinder. Stop turning the crankshaft when the timing marks indicate TDC or 0 .
  3. Oil the distributor housing lightly where the distributor bears on the cylinder block.
  4. Install the distributor so that the rotor, which is mounted on the shaft, points toward the No. 1 spark plug terminal tower position when the cap is installed. Of course, you won't be able to see the direction in which the rotor is pointing if the cap is installed, so lay the cap on the top of the distributor and make a mark on the side of the distributor housing just below the No. 1 spark plug terminal. Make sure that the rotor points toward that mark when you install the distributor.

On the VG30i and VG30E engines, align the mark on the distributor shaft with the protruding mark on the housing.

  1. When the distributor shaft has reached the bottom of the hole, gently move the rotor back and forth slightly until the driving lug on the end of the shaft enter the slots cut in the end of the oil pump shaft and the distributor assembly slides down into place.

On the VG30i and VG30E engines, the distributor rotor tip should be in the 11 o'clock position.

  1. Fasten the distributor hold-down bolt.
  2. Install the spark plug into the No. 1 spark plug hole.
  3. Install the distributor cap and engage the harness electrical connector.
  4. If necessary, attach the spark plug wires and coil wire.
  5. Start the engine. Check the timing and adjust it if necessary.

So far so good. The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The #1 wire goes in the distributor at the 6:30 o'clock position and the rest of the wires go clockwise from there according to the firing order. The 6:30 position should be the first one to the right of the window on the cap. Hope this helps.

firing order is 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2 standing in front of truck. cylinders on passenger side facing you are 2 4 6 8 cylinders on driver side facing you are 1 3 5 7 now this is your spark plugs wires location on distributor cap.with distributor facing you.2 plugs wire on cap 6 oclock position 1 plug wire on cap 8 oclock position,8 plug wire on cap 9 oclock position,4plug wire cap 10 oclock position,3 plug wire on cap 12 oclock position,6 plug wire on cap 1 oclock position, 5 plug wire on cap 3 oclock position, and 7 plug wire on cap 5 oclock position. in order for this to work you must be standing facing the engine all plug wire location on cap should be correct.

Missing distributer, How do I install another one?


drive it to a shop and have them do it. What will happen is you wont be able to position it correctly without a data scanner. You don't set timing on these like an old truck. You need to cam sync it which requires a scanner to show postion and then you rev the engine while checking the position which ideally should be at zero plus or minus 2. Just hope this is your problem before you go to this expense to replace the distributor. If you have a MIS i'm doubting its the distributor if you already replaced the cap and rotor.

Hi: To Install the Distributor Correctly, 1st thing to do is Remove your #1 Spark Plug assuming it will turn over have someone Turn the Key Off and On in Short Intervals.Either put a Compression Gauge in the #1 Spark Plug HoleOr the Old Fashion Way Works as well just put your Finger in the #1 Plug Hole.As your Helper Cranks the Engine On -Off On -Off.Not A Continuous Crank.When You Feel Air Pressure or See gauge Come up.TYhats when your Engine is a The compression Stroke.Now you Can Drop the New Distributor in its Hole.NOTE: You'll need a Spark Plug and Timing Diagram to See the Position your Distributor ROTOR Line it up to where the Diagram Shows your #1 Spark Plug Wire Will go in the Distributor Cap.If the Distributor Rotor is Not n That Position Your goning to Get Either Back Firing engine May Not Even Stsrt, To This Is Crucial. I can't find the timing marks, at least not sure enough to start turning the distributor


This should NOT be that hard. Remove the number 1 spark plug. Slowly bump the starter until the number 1 piston is at the top of its compression stroke. If you remove the coil wire so that it cannot start, then you should be able to have someone crank the engine while you attempt to feel the air coming out of the spark plug hole during the compression stroke. Once you are real close to the top of the compression stroke, then you set the distributer to just close at No. 1 piston position.
BTW, you should mark the distributor base with the location of the spark plug wire for the No.1 piston plug wire before doing this. The you just rotate the distributor until the points close while the rotor is pointing to that No. 1 wire mark. This becomes your "home position"
Now. install the cap, install the spark plug and wire. Snug the retainer a bit on the distributor. You should now be able to have a helper try to start the engine while you (very) gradually rotate the distributor a bit in each direction until the engine fires. The total rotation should not exceed 1/2 inch either side of the home position. Typically you will be going for an advance - so counter clockwise from the "home position" will likely get you started. Once it starts, you should see the alignment of the timing mark.

I just changed all spark plugs and wires with boash platium +4 spark plugs and boash wires. the problem i'm having it's only firing on 5 not 6, i checked all wires and there in the right places. I have...


1. Double check the connections at BOTH ends of the wires- at the distributor and at the plug. 2. Make sure each spark plug boot has proper connection. 3. Double check the plugs to make sure that they are all gapped correctly and no contamination. 4. Hold each spark plug upright and make sure that the ceramic insulator near the tip isn't loose and sliding down and possibly covering the metal tip..(had this happen more than once) 5. Check for spark at each plug (be careful) 6. Open the distributor cap and double check all the exposed metal connectors are clean. 7. buy one extra plug and change out the suspect plug.

1987 GMC Jimmy Distributor cap and Rotor replacement


A diagram may not be needed as its a reasonably easy fix to do on your own.the distributor ca p will only fit on properly one way because at the base of the cap locaters can only fit the distributor if they line up.When doing the spark plug leads do them one at a time and if nessecary write or mark leads as 1,2 etc .The rotor can only fit on one way but put a mark on the distributor to show where the rotor was pointing when you took it off and if it still points there when the new one is fitted.When changing distributor cap and leads they have to go to the correct place.Pays to mark the outside of distributor cap where the locating bits are On the new and old one.Fit the new cap and rotor then take a spark plug lead and fit to new cap 1 at a time.You can tell by lining up the marks on the outside of the distributor cap when you hold them one on top of the other.Good luck
