I'm assuming you have the 2.2 Ecotec engine, for they have teh spark plugs hidden under the plastic cap on the engine's valve cover. The plastic cap which should say "2.2 Ecotec" can be removed with 10mm socket, and the valve cover (In case you didn't already know) if the aluminum top piece of the engine. They are a little ways down, so be careful not to cross thread the plug.

On these engines the top aluminum cover is more commonly called a cam cover than a valve cover since the DOHC or dual overhead cam is right inside the cover

Alos be very cateful not to overtighten the spark plugs, I over tightened one in wifes car and cracks the head down inside the plug tube, causing coolant leak inside #1 plug tube and misfire.... needless to say had to start over on an entire head job because of a spark plug being tightened too much

How do I change wires and plugs on a 2002 oldsmolmile bravada with a 4.2 litre engine ?

Hey Arnold,
First, you need to get a precut set of wires and a set of new spark plugs. It will be proficient to change one wire and one spark plug at a time... this will prevent a mix-up and cross-up of wires.. You will know which size spark plug wrench when you get the new plugs.. They will be either 5/8" or 18mm or 13/16".
Take your time and you can do this!!!

What do I need to do to change spark plugs and wires on 1997 mountaineer

Spark plug wires just pull off and press back on. Make sure you grasp the wires by the rubber boot only. If you pull the wires by the wires, instead of using the boot, you can break the wires. Remove the plugs with a 3/8" ratchet, extension and a spark plug socket. I do not know if you have to remove anything to get access to the spark plugs and spark plug wires. You may need a universal joint to angle the ratchet.

How to change the spark plugs and wires

First you need to research your Make and Model vehicle and determine your spark plug size (5/8 or or larger) typically there are only 3 sizes but you'll need to know which as you will have to buy the Spark plug socket to remove them. Next you need to locate a online diagram or Haynes Manual to see if you yourself can reach or change the plugs and wires as some cars are built in such a way that only a Technician would know how to reach them properly. 3rd you will need to determine if the OEM wires (Original Equipment Manuafacturer) part is available (cheaper) or if you will have to buy a aftermarket set (Bosch or ACCEL). Removing plugs will require a Socket wrench, spark plug socket and extension. when putting in new plugs make sure you use Anti-sieze on the thread of the new plugs before installation (keeps from locking up into the head) also make sure you use Plug wire boot lubrication before putting in new wires (this helps make sure that future plug replacement is easy as it will help the boot slide on and off. That's it without knowing your exact make and model.

When should you change spark plug wires as well as spark plugs

There is one sure fire way to know if your plug wires are in need of changing. Wait until it is dark outside and crank your car, pop the hood and if the plug wires are bad, you will see them arcing. What that term means is that you will see sparks coming from the plug wires on to the engine itself. When you change the plug wires out, do not skimp and go for the cheap ones, they break down under heat and will not be as conductive as they should be, spend a few more dollars and get the good ones, it will be worth it in the end. If you are changing out the plug wires, you should change out the plugs as well, and you should be good for at least 70k to 100k miles.

How to change te spark plugs

Hi: If this is your 1st time to Change your Spark Plugs, I recommend that you First of All Get the Correct Spark Plugs from your Auto Parts Store, Then Locate your Spark Plug Wires which run from your Distributor Cap to your Spark Plugs. If you have a V-8 There will be 8 if you Have a V-6 Then You'll have six Spark Plug Wires and 1- COIL Wire which is located in the Center of your Distributor Cap to your Coil. It is the Shortes Wire.I Recommend you ONLY do 1-Spark Plug at a Time, This will Prevent you from getting any of your wires Crossed which will Cause your Engine to Run Rough ,Back Fire or Not even Start,So just Pull off 1-Wire From Spark Plug and one Wire From Your Distributor Cap, You'll Need a Spark Plug Socket Probally 5/8th in. And a Ratchet and 2- Different Size Extensions to beable to reackh all your Spark PlugsNOTE!! Buy you a Spark Plug Wire Tool there not very Expensive but well worth it,This was you Can Pull the Wires with out Damaging Your Wires. And you Might Want to Put NEW Spark Plug Wires On as well, If So and I do Recommend This. And Again Just do 1- Wire and Plug At a Time So you'll know you Have Not Crossed any Wires. Hope This Helps You ,Please Respond by Voting on This Problem And How it Helped You. Thanks From WYOCWBOY

My check engine light is on and the code is reading p0304 what could be the problem

You have a Misfire at Cylinder #4 meaning:
Dirty, fouled or malfunction Spark Plug at #4 Cylinder. Remove the Spark Plug and check the igntion (spark end).
Ignition (Spark Plug) Wire malfunction for #4 Cylinder.
Misfire from the Coil/Distributor at the #4 connection from Cylinder #4.
Get a Spark Plug/Wire/Coil/Distributor tester and check the Spark Plug, Wire and Coil.
I always recommend changing everything in sets meaning: Change all Spark Plugs and Wires.

Need to know where spark plugs are located in order to change

Follow the spark plug wires down into the engine, a soft tug should pull the wire loose from the plug and then you will need a spark plug socket to change them.
