Question about Chevrolet Suburban 1500

1 Answer

I have a 2002 Chevy Suburban with 150,000 miles. Lately it has become noisy when driving. It sounds like the noise is coming from the front wheels area. Is there a front differential in that thing. We replaced the rear differential a couple of years ago. Not sure if the noise is front differential or something else.

Check both C/V axles (drivers and passenger side) for a torn boot and both front axle seals. Next, inspect your front wheel bearings and lower control arm. The lower control arm may just need some new washers. If you have recently installed new brakes, check your backing plate to see if it is bent

2002 Chevy 4wd

maby im wrong but if you rev up and only rear wheels spin that means that it might be 4 wheel drive but not constant 4 wheel drive or diff lock system ,,,, ,, in 4 wheel drive all wheells will turn together but if pressure of slip is bad enough or torque high enough only 2 wheels will drive ,,, thats why diff lock locks wheels together in each axle to over come this ,,, all wheel drive like in landrover locks all 4 wheels together to ensure all wheels rotate to give best grip

it does sound like wheel bearing a cv joint dont make noise and then stop but you can jack the car up and in neutral try to shake the tire from side to side.to see if you have any play then turn the wheel by hand try to feel for roughness in bearing. let me know what you find. Phil.
