Question about 2003 Ford Taurus
My 2003 Ford Taurus will not start. The battery was dead and my husband jump started the car, I let it set in the drive way for about 30 mins and then headed into town. I drove maybe 3 miles and then the car just shut down. I pulled over and we tired to jump start it but couldn't so we towed it back to our house. We got the battery charged back up but it still will not start, and the theft light is flashing. What could be causing this?
It's your altenator. Replace it. It is not putting out enough power to run all the electrical components of your vehicle, plus a little extra needed to recharge your battery. Hence, the reason your battery ends up dead over such a short period of time. The altenator is also not providing enough power to the theft deterrent system. Your ignition is in place, the key is in there, but there's just not enough power for the "brains" of your car to know it, so since it cannot detect your key, the theft deterrent system takes over and disables the vehicle.

It is your alternator, I had this same exact problem.

Either your battery has dead cells and wont take a charge or possibly your altenator is faulty
