Try this first: change spark plug for that cylinder and replace spark plug wire for same cylinder.

Possible Causes:

Air leak in the intake manifold, or in the EGR or PCV system. Base engine mechanical fault that affects only Cylinder 4. Fuel delivery component fault that affects only Cylinder 4 (i.e., a contaminated, dirty or sticking fuel injector). Ignition system problem (coil or plug) that affects Cylinder 4 .This is what is listed for your code.

1996 nissan maxima random misfire

I'm confused! The heading on this question says 2004 Saturn Ion and the question itself says 1996 Nissan Maxima.

Doesn't matter much. The answer is the same for both. There are MANY things that can cause misfires. It could be spark plugs and wires. It could be ignition coils, it could be cylinder head gasket failures. It could be vacuum leaks. It could be broken or burnt valves. It could be faulty injectors....The list goes on, but I think you probably get the point by now.

Anyway, "Random cylinder misfire" simply means that you have more than one cylinder that is misfiring. It could be two cylinders misfiring or it could be ALL of the cylinders misfiring at times, or any combination in-between.

Proper diagnosis required.

P1320 service code on 2000 nissan maxima & #5 cylinder misfire or #6 cylinder misfire

2000 maxima are famous for having bad coils - those cost about $350 if you dealer isn't trying to rip you off (otherwise they will charge $600). I also read you can get an aftermarket coil at Autozone.

It means that your engine is running lean - not getting enough fuel for the amount of air that the engine is receiving. Because your maxima is equipped with a V-6 engine, whatever the problem, it is affecting only bank #1. Bank #1 is always the side of the engine where cylinder #1 is located, or in your case, the left side of the engine as it is viewed while facing the crankshaft end of the engine.
(on a 4 cylinder engine, there is only one bank and it is always referred to as Bank #1)
There are several things that can cause a lean condition including vacuum leaks, a malfunctioning Evaporative Emissions system, a misfiring cylinder (due to bad plugs, bad injectors, or an intake or head gasket leak.), a malfunctioning Mass Airflow sensor (MAF) or Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor (MAP) or even a bad Oxygen sensor (O2s) (Nissan sometimes calls an O2s an "Air-Fuel Ratio Sensor") It is even possible for a leaking vacuum brake booster to cause a lean code.
If there are any other malfunction codes present, it may help to pinpiont the cause of the lean code. (Like a P0301 "cylinder#1 misfire detected", in which case, you would address the misfire code first.)
Certain problems, like a leaking brake booster or a bad MAF will usually set lean codes for BOTH banks.
If the P0171 is the ONLY code present, the most likely cause is a bad O2s, but I recommend some diagnostic testing to prove it before spending the mega-bucks that Nissan gets for their O2 sensors.

1999 Nisian Maxima and need to know what codes mean?

P1320 Ignition Signal
Signal wire from distributor
P0325 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)
O2 senor ( The one before the cat converter )
P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
The misfire detection monitor, a software strategy built into the computer, is designed to detect an engine misfire. The computer can also normally identify the specific cylinder in which the misfire has occurred. A misfire is nothing more than a lack of combustion, which can be caused by poor fuel quality or metering, low compression, lack of spark or unmetered air entering the engine. There are other possible, less obvious causes as well, such as uncommanded Exhaust Gas Recirculatin (EGR), flow. When the misfire monitor detects a misfire, it will trigger the check engine light with the specific cylinder number as the last digit in the P030X code. For instance cylinder 1 misfire is P0301, cylinder 2 is P0302 etc. In this case we have either multiple cylinders misfiring, or the computer simply can't determine the specific cylinder, and as such we are left with the P0300 in computer memory.
Possible Causes:
Fuel injectors, related wiring, sensors and computer issues
Running out of gas, or poor fuel quality
Evaporative emissions system (EVAP) concerns: fuel vapors leaking into engine
Incorrect fuel pressure

EGR system concerns: leaking EGR valve or restricted ports
Base engine concerns: low compression, valve train problems and timing issues
Ignition system concerns including, but not limited to:
Faulty spark plugs
Faulty coil or related wiring
Ignition module or related wiring issues
Ignition related sensor faults or wiring issues
