2003 mercury marauder low mileage.........where's the fuel filter and fuel pump? Car has been stored for 2 1/2 years and the engine is not getting fuel. Fuel maybe gelled or fuel pump is not operating. The engine starts up if starting fluid is sprayed in intake manifold. I need to determine why the engine isn't getting fuel.

The fuel pump is in the back were the tank is,trace the fuel line from motor to the tank, now the pump may be on top of tank, and it may be elec.So first turn key and see if you can hear the if you beleve the fuel is gelled, try moving the car back and forth,to hear the fuel in tank, you may want to try some high-octane boost,or see if you can get some racing fuel about 100+ and mix with regular fuel.good luck

2004 mercury marauder. Y wont the fuel pump kick on???

Could be that the Inertia switch has cut it off. Check Websites with the term "2004 mercury marauder inertia switch" then add location to the search if the first search only generates parts.

This is a safety device and is a part which cn be in different locations depending on the year.

In addition to the Inertia switch, a fuel pump relay or a crankshaft sensor can do the same thing.

My 2003 mercury marauder 4.6 I've changed spark plugs, coils, and fuel injectors, crank sensor, timing sensor and my car when starts their is a lot of white smoke when I touch the gas also gas is coming...

Running way rich (to much fuel) Have you had the MAF sensor checked? I would also check to see if the fuel pressure regulator is operating correctly, if it's "stuck" then your pressure is way to high and that would also lead to running rich. Is the return line from the fuel rail to the gas tank open? If that's blocked/ kinked or otherwise restricting fuel flow that could give you a to rich running condition. Don't forget about the o2 sensors, but sounds like your not even getting into closed loop yet. post more details if you can

Oxygen sensor replacement mecury marauder

These take a special socket to provide clearance for the attaching wires. Socket is fairly common, Check Sears, Lowes, Home Depot and local parts stores for socket.

the fuel pump will not cause bad gas mileage.the spark plugs may need changing, fuel filter, air filter, plug wires(basically a tune-up),or the thermostat probably needs changing as this can cause poor gas mileage as it won`t allow the motor to get to proper operating temperature(computer monitors temp)and commands fuel injectors on longer(spray more fuel).driving habits change over time look at this also.cold whether driving also will use more fuel.pcv valve i can`t help you, maybe a parts store will show were it is if it has one.the only time you change the fuel pump is when it gets noisy or it quits altogether,or the pressure is good but the fuel volume is not to specs.

Where is the fuel filter located and how do you replace it on a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer?

Find the filter which is under the car, There are special tools required which are cheap at the parts store. They should show you how to use them.

Check engine light---scan for the fault codes. Go to your mechanic, or your local auto parts superstore. Most stores do it for free.

When I turn the Ignition key the fuel pump doesn't always actuate and the car won't start. This problem is intermittant and seems to be more prevalent in colder temperature-below 40 deg F.

It sounds to me like the pump is on it's way out. You could try the the fuel pump relay, there are usually a couple relays that are the same try swapping the fuel pump relay with the horn or something. If the problem goes away then you know it's the relay. Put a mark on the fuel relay before you start so you don't lose track of it while testing. It should tell you in the owners manual which relay is for the fuel pump.

Wher is the fuel filter located on a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer and how do you change it?

Mercury Mountaineer fuel filter is located in front and on top of fuel tank behind two shields. . When you look just behind the front passenger side tire you will see the first shield. Behind that is the second. U will need to buy the fuel line release tools to get the lines off the filter, any good auto parts store will have these.
