Could be a number of things but the simplest answer is the vacuum hose between the inlet manifold and brake servo is cracked and leaking air.you brake.the car stops.

I have a 2008 Suzuki XL7 and the rear brake lights stopped working, but the third light on the hatch still works. We have replaced the bulbs and checked the fuse and all are good.

The 3rd brake light and the tow side lights are on different fuses, have you verified that they are both good. The other part that can cause this is the multifunction switch (AKA turn signal switch).

Do not have a diagram but there is alot of work changing rear axle seals

Probably air-flow meter trouble. Take them out and gently clean them with cotton bud's and petrol. Cleaning may not be enough one may be faulty and need replacing.

Susuki xl7 2003 stuck in park?

It might be the shiftlock. On newer cars you have to press the brake pedal in order for it to shift out of park. There is a manuel override in the owners manuel. There is a switch on the brake pedal that would need to be replaced.
