Question about 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme
My grandfather has a 1989 oldsmobile cutless supreme and for some reason there is smoke coming out of the steering wheel. We think there may be a faulty wire or something but were not for sure.
I've seen a few turn signal switches cause this problem. I think that lubricant in the switch gets between the electrical contacts inside the switch and they become hot as a result of the poor connections this causes... at least that's what appears has happened to the ones I've taken apart. Often a small melted spot can be seen on the body of the switch which is the source of the smell and smoke. I've replaced a few of these over the years and never had the problem reappear.
