Question about 1997 Toyota Tacoma

1 Answer

I have a 1997 toyota tacoma Sr5 with the V6. the orginal engine had a bad head gasket. so i found a used engine with supposedly 75000 miles on it. for only $550. the truck runs fine, starts fine and i have been driving it for a while now. but when i put my foot in it, it sounds like its drowning. it doesnt have any get up and go. just wondering what could be causing this? i cant even pass another vehicle because of it.

I have a toyota tacoma v6 sr5 and the check engine light came on it runs like it always has.. i just hit 44,000 miles and was wondering if its just a precautionary thing.. ...

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

I strongly suggest that you have the car diagnosed. If the check engine light is on there must be a faulty sensor somewhere and having it scanned will show the fault code. By then we'll know what sensor should be replaced.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

What other chrysler engines can you use on a 1997 Chrysler Concorde found an engine on ebay want to know if I can use it. Blown head gaskets on mine.

U don't scrap an engine for blown head gaskets, it is not that big a job if this is a 3.5 liter, and any 3.5 will work.

1997 tacoma sr5 6 cylinder 4x4 uses radiator fluid no leak sign

you could have blown the head gasket the only real way to test for this is whats called a "sniffer test" they **** some water out the rad and test it to see if there is any hydrocarbons in it if there is the head gasket has blown also if you over heated the motor you may need a new set of spark plugs, as for the leaky rad, get some "rad seal" or "rad weld" and tip that in the rad that normaly stops the leak for a year or so,

#4 cyl misfires/code 304

P-0304 indicates number 4 cylinder misfire. Are you using Toyota parts dept spark plugs? More often than not, non-toyota plugs make the v-6s run poor, right out of the box....
Try this:With the engine running, pull the connector wire off of the #4 injector. Note to see if there is any change with the idle quality. No change? You may have a bad injector.
