Question about 2004 Saturn VUE

2 Answers

Just got a call from the shop doing my oil change and they told me that the oil drain pan plug is stripped. Wouldn't this happen from over-tightening and would likely have been caused by them? If they try to charge me for the repair on this should I fight it?

Stripped threads are usually caused by improper thread alignment when reinstalling the plug or if you severly over tighten to the point of stripping, but this is very hard to do. If you had the vehicle since day one and they were the only ones changing the oil, then yes, it could be a fault of their own. Otherwise it may have been done awhile back, but it took this long before some actually said something about it.

Cost to replace oil pan in 2006 dodge charger sxt?

YES if you look around you'll find a drain plug repair kit ,its a common problem but there's hope ,a universal fit repair kit ,and with a little knowhow most can do it in about an hour after you fully drain oil ,my question is why the people who did the damage are not paying for all the repairs ? if that's not an option then go with repair kit. hope this helped you ,good luck.

How much to change the oil pan on 2006 dodge charger sxt

You can purchase universal drain plugs at about any parts store that are designed to repair stripped out pans. They have a bar with a nut that fits into your drain hole and a plug seal that fit around the drain hole. This is the cheapest way to permanantly fix your problem.

Changing the oil on a 2000 caviler coupe and \I broke the plug loose and it turns but it still wont come out of the oil pan.... any soulutions?

the threads in the pad are likely stripped if its an aluminum pan or the nut has broken loose on the inside of the pan if it is a steel pan. Either way a new oil pan will be needed. Typically over tightening the drain plug will cause this to happen. Drain plug torque specs are pretty low, typically around 20 foot pounds. A person can easily exceed this with the average wrench.

05 cavalier oil pan

Did the cracking originate from around the drain plug or elsewhere? During the oil change, the only part that they would have had to touch would be the drain plug, and if they over tighted it, but you would think that if they did that, it would just strip the threads. I would definitely talk to the manager at the shop where the oil was changed, as even if they didn't cause the crack, I am surprised that they didn't notice it either.

Oil pan replacement for a 2004 Mazda tribute

You can buy an oversized drain plug that will cut new threads. There is no need for replacement of the pan.

Any auto parts store should be able to sell you one.

Stripped out oil plug

You can have the oil pan re-tapped, which mean they can re-thread the oil pan for a slightly over sized oil pan plug. There are different size oil plug and just get one size slightly larger and have a shop re tap the oil pan for the larger oil plug and there you have it, good as new. keep in mind that I would make sure i use lots of grease on the tap tool to ensure i get most of the aluminum filling on the tap and not in the pan. Good luck and this should only cost you 1 hour of the shop rate or you can do it your self if you have to. You can loan out the tap tool from Auto Zone and pick up a larger oil pan plug there too. Be safe friend

Someone is trying to rip you off. If the drain plug is stripped, it can be replaced with a slightly larger plug simply by using a "tap" to re-thread the hole, and then put in a larger plug.

Replacing oill pain on 2004 Chrysler Pacifica

If you fequnt any quick lube places they use air tools to remove the drain plug and it often strips the threads in the oil pan. So in answer to your question, yes the oil pan needs to be replaced or else the iol leaks out at a pretty fast rate. I would suggest gettting this and future oil changes done at your local Chrysler dealer.
