As long as you have a good book on the vehicle, I recommend Haynes but CHilton's will work, you should be ok. It's not that difficult as long as you follow the steps outlined in either manual. Make sure you have the motor set to number 1 top dead center on the compression stroke before you start. It makes the job so much easier to complete.

1998 ford expedetion how to change a timing belt

4.6L or 5.4L?
Neither of these engines has a timing belt, but they do have a timing chain which rarely require replacement.

This a fairly involved job and requires access to a good amount of hand tools and some specialized tools if it's the 5.4L. I wouldn't attempt this job on your own without a good Chiltons manual which can be ordered from for a decent price. It will be a lot easier to reference that, than trying to get instructions from a website.

Replaced radiator, thermostat and radiator cap, still overheats. Can I change water pump without a manual Please give expert advise..Mechanic wants $900/jpb

Don't know if you have 4cyl. or 6cyl. engine, but both are similar and require taking the front of the engine apart and the timing belt off. (timing belt replacement at this time is highly recommended.)
It is a moderately challenging job and requires that components be lined up precicely. A manual will give you a good step by step with the timing and reference marks of your engine's crankshaft and camshaft(s). They make a kit that has the water pump, idler pulleys and timing belt to do this job.
I just did one in a chrysler V6, took me about 8 hours. Actually $900 is a fair price to do the job, but you can do it yourself in the $300 range.....I used a Haynes manual, I would recommend that to you also.....MIke

How to replace and set timing belt on a 1990 toyota camry

unless you are a qualified mechanic with the correct tools i would not attempt this repair as you could totally damage the engine if attempted and timing slightly out.

Can the crankshaft position sensor in a 2005 Kia Sedona be replaced fairly easily, or should it go to a garage?

This is a fairly easy repair. It does not require any technical work at all.It is a job that should take a mechanically inclined person about two hours to accomplish in their garage of their house.Any other questions get back to me....Thx..

Where is the water pump located at?

The water pump is driven by the timing belt on these engines and you have to remove the timing cover and the belt to allow the water pump to be removed. The water pump itself is in behind this cover.

This is a big job and requires a high degree of mechanical skill. The belt will need to be retensioned and the engine timing checked. It is also highly recommended that the timing belt be completely replaced whilst you are doing this job. For these reasons I do not recommend that you attempt this yourself unless you are confident in your mechanical skills.

Many thanks for using FixYa.

Jump timing want start Mechanic just put new timing belt on

If the timing did jump and assuming no damage to the engine you'll need to get in to the engine and replace the timing belt and tensioner. This can be done on your own if your up to it. With the right tools it will take 5-6 hours. In the meantime do not attempt to start or run the engine.
I hope this may have helped,

Tune Up.

Plugs, wires, cap and rotor should be replaced. Ignition timing should be checked with a timing light. Change fuel and air filters. Change oil and filter (I like to use synthetic oil... Waaaay better). Check belt(s) for cracks or excessive slack. Inspect coolant level and color (it should be a nice bright green). Inspect brake fluid level and color (it should NOT be black, indicating the need for a brake system flush) If the car has more than 60,000 miles it's a good idea to replace the timing belt. (Although you should not attempt this yourself unless you are fairly mechanically inclined and have the Bentley manual)...Hope this helps...;-)

Need to replace water pump in 2001 pt cruiser

This is a fairly large job and it should only be done by someone that has some experience with this engine. The fit is very tight in the PT Cruiser and will involve jacking the engine up and down and a lot of screwing around trying to get all of the engine cover bolts out etc.

I would not even attempt to do this job without a good manual.

It is best if you replace the timing belt, belt tensioner, and idler pulleys while the job is being done.

The water pump is in the front of the engine and is run off of the timing belt.

If you look online at this picture: you will see that it is on the bottom of the engine on the right.

Bring it to a reputable shop that backs their work as it is easy to make a mistake on this job.

Good luck.

95 honda civic timing belt replacement process

If you have never changed a cambelt (timing belt) then it is not recommended that you attempt it. It is a job for a mechanic, as getting the cam timing wrong on reassembly is easy to do and can have disastrous consequences. It is easy enough once you know how, and if you are reasonably mechanically able, I'd suggest getting a repair manual for your vehicle that has a step by step procedure for timing belt replacement. Companies like Haynes produce very good repair manuals.
