I would guess you probably snapped the belt at least partially and the noise you hear is the torn belt flapping as the motor turns..Open the hood and look at the serpentine belt it drives all the power equipt off the crank it will be painfully obvious if the belt is damaged or broken if it seems to hard to replace yourself look for one of the stickers on the actual hood or on the radiator cross member for hose routing diagram

If the belt is still intact I would guess that you blew out the power steering pump.
