Question about 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500HD

1 Answer

2007 chev Avalanche heater/ac vents only blow on windshield and floor combined and I can not get them to change. This happened about 5 months ago but it fixed itself after restarting the car. This time it is stuck. Is there a vent damper control I can fix?

Make sure all the fuses are OK then try disconnecting the battery for a bit to see if that will re-set it and get it working again.
If that doesen't work more than likely it's the blend door actuator.
It's located under the drivers side dash mounted to the duct work.
It's a compact box which encloses a electric motor and has a wire harness plugged into it. It moves the damper to direct the flow of air.

Is this a easy do it yourself fix

Replacing the actuator will require removal of the panel below the steering column and the instrument panel to gain proper access to it and the actuator only requires removal of a couple of screws and the harness to remove it.

Unfortunately to finish the job correctly you’ll need a GM scan tool that’s required to clear any DTC (diagnostic trouble code) and run a motor re-calibration of the heating and cooling system.

With out the scanner I’d say it’s a dealer repair.

In my aztek the blower just blows into the driver and passanger side, i am not able to change the direction the air is blowing. I have replaced the ac heater control and still having the same problem

the actuator that sends the air up or down is unplugged or broken. it is located on the ductwork behind the dashboard in the very bowels of the whole system. perhaps you can see it if you remove the radio and the ac control panel

2007 merc grand marquis heater air comes out all of the vents and very little out of the defrost vents

Check to make sure the engine vacuum is getting to the heater/ac control. Bad vacuum hose or leak. Many vehicles use engine vacuum to move heater doors and controls. When the vacuum is absent, it usually defaults to air blowing out the AC vents.

Air will not blow through defrost or floor. the air will only blow through the a/c vents.

You need to check the space between your heater core and your a/c condensor. Dirt and dust plug these up alot. It could also be your heater control switch itself, not allowing the heater door to switch over. If you don't hear a vaccuum sound when you change from vent to heater or defrosr, your switch/control is bad.

I have a 2007 dodge 2500 diesel and the heater will only heat up to a very light heat.

Mode Door 1.
a.This door regulates air flow to either the dash vents or defrost/floor. If you have air flowing only through the vents with no defrost or floor, this door is failing. From our experience, this door is usually the first domino to fail. Not sure why, just is.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->4.Mode Door 2.
a.When mode door 1 is set to divert air away from the vents and into the second stage of the system, door #2 chooses whether air goes to the defrost vents to the windshield or out through the floor vents in the passenger and driver's side footwells. Failure is indicated by an inability to choose between defrost and floor.
b.This door turns out to be the most difficult to replace. In order to replace the door, the dash panel has to be removed. It's still better than the dealer fix because you don't have to evacuate the AC system, drain the radiator, and remove the plenum box. But it is more work than the other fixes. When this door breaks, it falls in the down position, blocking the floor vents and diverting all air through the defrost vents. From a safety standpoint, this is good since you'd most likely rather have a clear windshield than warm feet. We suspect that a large percentage of customers will just leave this door unrepaired. You will have heat through the dash vents and to the windshield, just nothing to the floor. It's inconvenient, but you'll have to make the determination if warm feet are worth the extra work to fix the door. An extra pair of socks is easier.

I have a 1999 Caddac DeVille . The AC works fine during the summer but in the winter it won't blow out hot air unless I'm driving. I've let the car run in the morning to warm up but the inside...

your heater core is possibly stopped up if there has been a radiator leak and stop leak has been poured its definetly clogged or could be a faulty thermostat

Blower motor running but getting minimal air out of vents

Most likely the gates that direct airflow either to the floor, dash, windshield or a combination have gotten stuck. This may be a vacuum leak or a mechanical problem. Try the just blowing it to the floor, then the dash, then the windshield and see if the air comes out more normally with one of those. Repairs for this can be expensive since you have to get behind the dash. If your system has knobs, you can try to pop the gates open or closed by quickly turning the knobs in different directions. That might help, but will still be annoying. Might need to take it to a shop to really get it fixed.
