Question about 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

1 Answer

Today, after fueling up my car - I went to start the engine and the key wouldn't turn in the ignition, the steering wheel wouldn't move and I couldn't push the brake pedal down. After trying several times to turn the steering wheel or the key - it finally turned in the ignition and started. What did I do or not do to cause this?

If you turned the steering wheel after shutting off the engine and the steering wheel caught the lock and tried to turn back it would hold pressure against the ignition lock cylinder. if it happens again try pulling the steering wheel hard one way or the other and turn the key at the same time.

I have a ford focus 2003- today when I exited the car nothing was unusual..when I went to try to go to work the key will go in ignition but won't turn AT ALL. Anyone know what I can do to fix it?

your steering wheel has tension on it - are your front wheels parked against a curb or were you turning your steering wheel while you shut off the car? Try pulling hard left and turning the key. If that doesn't work, pull hard right while turning the key. You may have to pull really hard if you are a smaller person.

Why would turning the steering wheel while cranking engine gets my car to start?

The ignition switch in the column most likely has a break in it. So when you move the steering wheel, it moves the wire so it completes the connection when you turn the key. Have the ignition switch replaced.

Ignition key won't turn

Try turning the key while jerking the wheel left and right and depressing the brake pedal. If that won't work try another key.

As I got out of the car i grabbed the wheel and it moved left and clicked. Now I cant get the key to turn in ignition and wheel is locked. What do I do?

move the steering wheel while turning the key in the ignition and it should come unlocked. This happens sometimes, its just on a bind. Like i said just turn the steering wheel left and right the little bit that you can and the key will be able to turn.
