Question about 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante

1 Answer

Since a couple of weeks now, the Battery light and the Brake light come on and off simultaniously while driving my 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante. Since Sears Automotive replaced my Alternator and Battery about a year ago and it's still under warranty, I recently brought the car back to Sears to have it tested for this problem. They did alot of tests, but since it only happens while the car is driven, they could not find anything wrong, because all the tests showed no problems The last couple of days it has been draining the Battery and I had to jump-start it twice allready, but everytime we hook it up to be tested it works and shows no problem. E.P.

Check the small power wire that hooks to the back of the alternator to see that it is getting 12-volts when you turn the key on.
Because your car is so dependent on the battery, all cars have a battery light on the dashboard that is designed to warn you if the recharging system fails. A simple circuit looks at the voltage that the alternator is producing, and turns the battery light on if it is low. The battery light indicates a battery charging problem. If the battery light comes on and stays on while you are driving, the most common cause is a broken alternator belt. Total failure of the alternator is another possibility. and for brake lights problem:-- This light of course is used to indicate a problem with the braking system. Depending on its sensitivity, it could simply mean that your break pads are wearing thin, you can check this by removing your front tire and checking the condition, thickness of the pads on either side. Other thing to check is the switch under the brake is just out of adjustment or loose. As per the procedure :--You mentioned that you have to jump start.Tat means that battery has lost its charge. So first get the battery charge and voltage checked. If its low then get it charged. Then drive your car for few hours and re-check the charge. If its loosing the charge after driving the faulty part is alternator.Quickly get the alternator voltage checked. But if in case alternator checked ok then its confirm problem of your battery. But still before going for new battery check the wires connected to battery and alternator. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Charge it all the way up. Then take it to a auto parts store and get the battery and starter and alternator tested.

When engine is cold neutral and drive light keeps blinking

Go and have the battery tested. The first post is correct but a low battery voltage (caused when cold) will definately contribute to problems with the transmission and if you miss even a few shifts with the F4A51 transmission, you will break the wave spring.

Brake light, battery light, antilock brake light coming on

this issue sounds like a grounding issue, teh main clue being everything gets dimmer. sometimes an additional ground is a faster repair than finding and resolving under dash issues.

This issue will likely NOT be battery or alternator.

Love the right rear tire clue, and it should not be related..

When in drive the neutral indicator light flashes and the car drives sluggish. it is a mitsubishi diamante. 2001 model.

Check your ATF cooling system. Your transmission fluid is overheating. This might be after a hard drive. The fluid might need to be replaced too.

Transmission changes slowly

When it was cold weather the oil is thicker and definitely here the transmission needs a good flush. Be careful to use the genuine Mitsubishi transmission oil as it was designed for it.
