Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

I purchased a Ford Territory Tx in 2006.Approx. 4 months ago I started to notice a vibration at certain times on the steering. If one should brake then there was a shudder on the steering wheel. This did not happen all the time (approx twice a week). since then the condition appeared more frequent and with the help of Frik von Loggenberg at Witbank branch we tried to solve the problem. I have put on new tyres on the front balanced and did the wheel alignment although this was not necessary. frik checked the front bushes steering shocks and anything that could be loose. All was in order. but the problem persists. the problem occurs usually between the speeds of 100 - 120 km/hr whether normal drive or in cruise control. what I realised lately is that it happens if the road surface becomes ripply (not speed bumps or ripple strips ). It feels like the vehicle is picking up the frequency of the ripples as the vehicle passes over it and then start vibrating. This carry on to the extent that the vehic

Replace the throttle position sensor then. Am pretty certain that's the problem.

You might have it checked for codes too. Sometimes codes are stored that do not cause a CEL, but give clues as to what is failing.

SOURCE: vibration in front end

It is likely both your track bar and the lack of a steering gear box stabilizer. The bushings on your stock track bar can be replaced with polyeurethane or metal bushings which will help curb the problem.
The steering stabilizer attaches to your steering gear box and your frame allowing the steering to be more stable. I have put both on my truck and it drives like a caddy now as a result. If I had to choose between the two items, my money would go to the steering stabilizer first. I believe I bought mine here:
Hope this helps

Diagnois ford territory engine mount vibration

u can do this 2 ways.tranny mounts, have someone get in the car, holdbreak, put in gear, slightly ascelarate the throttle and watch the engine .in drive engine will travel forward and vise versa in reverse.believe me, if u have any bad u will think the motor is tryin to jump out. upper mount check/ 9 out of 10 times,it feels like u are in a popcorn machine when u come to a complete stop ildeing in gear, take a small floorjack and place it under the oilpan again have someone in the car . start and put in gear, just let it idle, and slightly raise just the motor and see if the vibration goes away ./ note,be sure to have a small piece of wood between jack an oilpan.

Steering vibration while driving

If your tires are not balanced or you have a warped rim this will do this, especially at certain speeds you will notice it more, I would have your rims balanced first, and keep in mind if a rim is not able to be balanced it is warped.

I would be suspect of bearings or CV joints, but first look at balancing tires. they would be able to tell you if the others are due for repair.

a visual inspection would not show up a warped disc/rotor,so as a first step(cheapest)i would change both front rotors/pads but buy genuine parts.(rotors only last about 50/60k before you need to change them anyway)and as mentioned to another person,by the time you buy the bits, take the wheels off, remove the calipers etc you might as well take it to autozone and keep your hands only takes an hour, tops....

I've got an 08 4cyl and it doesn't really have the vibration unless its really cold. Usually if I give it about 30 seconds...when the rpms start to come down, its barely noticeable.

High speed vibration

try checking your bearings on both sides. as for your brakes when you change your rotors try changing both of them as well as your pads. i had the same problems and that fixed it. if it persists i would look at your ball joints and then your calipers. good luck.
