Question about 2000 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

I'm trying to install a standard factory radio into a 2000 dodge caravan. The original harness is there but the radio does not work. The radio works in another van I have but not in this one.Is their anything special that needs to be done or any hidden fuses?

Turn the key to on position and check for power and grounds at the wires listed below, also are u sure this is not just a head unit, this means the other van may have a separate power amplifier which is common, if the lights come on but no sound then it is the wrong radio for this van. here is the wiring diagram colors for this year.

Hi and thanks for the response. I've checked the wiring and I have no power at either the pink/constant terminal or the red/white switched terminal. I've also checked the fuses under the drivers side dash and none of them are blown. Do these lines come directly from the fuse box? Also, the door locks do not work unless the ignition switch is on. Could these two problems related?

    Thanks for your help,

    Jim

After Market Radio Installation

Hey man, you have an amplified system. use a 70-1858 wiring harness and jump the blue/white wire from the aftermarket radio to the pink wire on the second plug. this will power on the factory amp with the aftermarket radio.

Dogde Caravan 6 cil 1996/Disconnect factory alarm

Even though this appears to be factory installed it is actually an addon module. It should be located near the fuse panel under the drivers side Dash board. You can remove the whole module and reconnect the two wiring harnesses at that point using the original already installed connectors. It was a simple design. It is installed where the harness from the engine compartment connects to the under dash harness.

I had this same problem. After reading other ideas and some trial and error, I finally got it. Most Caravans have an Infinity system (the speaker grill will say Infinity on it) ,which uses an amplifier to run the door and rear speakers. I had to ground the clip wire that was originally attatched to the strap ground on the factory installed radio. Then I also had to hook the wire on the new radio for power antenae (blue and white on my unit) to a blue wire on my new harness. This wire came from the last wire of 7 wire harness that had the other 6 wires for speakers. The original wire appeared to be green/red on my vehicle. After I connected both, the speakers cameon and sound great again.

Sounds like your Gr Caravan has the premium sound package. You likely haven't hurt anything - but you may need to modify the wiring a bit. The speakers have a tweeter speaker in the center of the main speaker and the wiring goes through that. However, it only worked with the premium package. Go in to the speakers and move the wiring connections from the tweeter to the main speaker. Your other option is to replace the speakers.

The donor engine may not be compatible with your system. I came across that on an Aerostar van once. The donor engine came from the wrong interchangible year of Aerostar and didn't work at all until I installed the correct year engine harness to communicate with the factory ECM.

99 stereo out of a 99 CARAVAN

Hello,
Unfortunately you cannot hook this stereo up with out the original plug that fits into the stereo unit. Once you have that then you could buy an wiring adapter that will break out the wires out of the original harness with labeled wires and you can just match them up and tape them together.
Good Luck
