Check your battery connections to see if they are loose, corroded (baking soda and water to clean), or broken. Check ground wire.

Suburban battery not charging

If your battery isn't charging it is either because your alternator isn't putting out enough voltage or the battery has gone bad. With the engine running, check the voltage on the battery terminals. It should read 14.6, or a little lower, but definitely higher than 13. If the voltage is too low the problem is the alternator. If the voltage is reading over 14, the battery needs to be replaced. Are you certain the battery is not charging, or could it be that the battery is being drained overnight?

My suburban was wrecked last fall (rear ended someone) and the airbags deployed. Since then I put on a new bumper, hood and grill and new positive and negative cables since the fireman cut both cables. My...

Not that I know of. But remove one cable, and put a test light across the gap. If it lights, you have a constant drain. Then remove fuses, etc. one at a time, until it goes out.

With accidents, it is common for wires to get cut, insulation opened, alternators to get burned out by a short, etc.
So it also would not hurt to put a voltmeter across the battery to check the alternator output.
The idea is it has to be about 12.5 idle, and over 13.5 at high RPM.

Smooth wheel on the timing belt rattles butnut in middle is tight

The timing belt is not on the outside of engine. What you are describing might be the belt tensioner. The bolts you speak of in alternator are the mounting bolts. If the "smooth" wheel is vibrating, then replace the wheel. That is the belt tensioner.

There is a plug, with a clip that holds it on. There is another wire under a black boot that's held on with a nut.

Check the voltage regulator if there's coming out of it.
you may have a good alternator but if nothing goes at
the alternator, then, it results to a drained battery. Just
replace your regulator, if this is not working.

My 2001 yukon does not turn over i put a new battery the voltage shows zero but the lights come on

You may need a new alternator as yours may be bad. A bad alternator will not allow you to startup, sometimes cuts your car off, and drains your battery instead of charging it. Also, you can get the starter checked too because that can cause the engine not to start too.
