    the shifter won't move

  • Debalicious Jul 08, 2010

I received an e-mail that said I had a solution to my problem and nothing came up except my last e-mail, where I said that it won't move because the shifter is stuck.

do the brake lights work? if not check under the truck you may have knocked a harness connector loose when u had it jacked up, also check the fuse if the brake lights are inop, u can override the lock out, it should tell u how in the owners manual, that way u can move it if u have to.

go under the truck and make sure u didn't knock anything loose like a connector, also check the transmission linkage and see if it moves freely.

    to release park try this:

x - you just need to put your right hand underneath the dash, under the ignition switch with the stuck key, and feel around for the stiff transmission-shift-lock cable, and just giggle it about a bit. Try all directions, don't be aggressive with it; and eventually you will be able to turn the key to the LOCK position.

How much transmission fluid do you need to fill a 2002 Izuzu Rodeo

in the absence of car manual, fill initially with one liter/qrt of transmission fluid. check for leaks and start engine. with transmission in park, slowly add transmission fluid with engine at idle. constantly monitor transmission fluid level with vehicle on level position until fluid level in "cold", then drive vehicle approximately for one mile until fluid is warmed up or hot. recheck fluid level with engine idling and on park. Add if necessary until fluid level in Hot position in dip stick. then your done. write down how much fluid you added for future reference.

Will not shift out of park

the shifter lever is stuck?
or the lever move to drive but car dont move.
its on ramps so the parking pawl in tranny is not jammed.
does the side of transmission, selector move correctly with
console lever action.
is this a park lock out feature failure.
or is the tranny ACTUALLY stuck in park with its lever in DRIVE
lever on side of trans , no car?

Put a new engine in a 1998 isuzu rodeo now it won't start. I thought it was the neutral safety switch because the R was on the dash and it was in park

This could be the problem. If your dash indicator is showing reverse but the transmission is in park it could be the safety switch. I'm not talking about the safety switch in the transmission though. In automatics they put a second switch to kill the starter from engaging. You need to adjust the linkage. If your shifter isn't actually on the column but the indicators are there is a cable that attaches the floor shift to the column and that is adjustable. Put the Floor shifter in Park and turn the column section nearest the dash by hand until you find park. Then adjust the cable length as needed. If all you have is the column shift it is still a cable adjustment. Set the emergency brake, drop the shifter to low 1 and adjust the cable linkage by loosening it on the transmission and manually move it all the way to low 1 then tighten it down then move the shifter to park and repeat teh adjustment process to verify that it is properly aligned. Lock the linkage back down and see if the vehicle will start, if it doesn't move the shifter to neutral and try to start the vehicle if the vehicle starts then check the column shift safety switch at the park position to make sure it is still in place and working. Typically, if the vehicle won't start in Park or Neutral it is more likely to be the Transmission neutral safety switch.

This problem also happened to me. However, I found the part online that replaces the second pink lever. The new part is made of metal so the part will never break again. I made the emergency fix with the dremel, ordered the part, and a week later the part came. I am making the permanent fix today. Follow the link above to order the new part. It costs around 49.00 including tax and shipping. It will take you appx 2 hours to remove the shifter, change the part, and reinstall.

I recently change my 2000 honda passport tanny and is not working forward i tried D 3 2 and L but only reverse is working

You need to check the level of automatic transmission fluid in it. If there's not enough fluid, then the transmission won't go into gear because not enough pressure is built up.

How do you check the transmission fluid

On a 2000 Rodeo there is no dip stick, you have to warm the rodeo to normal temp then remove the drain plug on the transmission if fluid comes out it is ok if not you have to pump some into it with a oil can or some other pump I have one it sucks !

When I start driving, the engine revs high and barely goes anywhere. it goes slowly up till 25mph and then is fine. It just started today

I believe '02 rodeo's have buttons for power mode and winter mode located between the shifter and the flip up console. You may have accidentally activated winter mode which cuts power to the drive wheels for driving in ice and snow.If so look on the instrument cluster and "winter mode" will be lit in green, simply push the button again to deactivate it while in PARK.Hope this helps ,good luck.

I SCREWED UP AND DRAINED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID OUTA MY RODEO SPORT 4 CYLINDER. WHAT DO I DO TO CORRECT THIS? HOW DO I ADD IT BACK? I THINK I JUST TURNED MY 15 DOLLAR OIL CHANGE INTO A MONEY PIT

Nothing too serious here. Make sure you have the transmission pan securely bolted back up. Make sure & cross tighten the bolts. You refill by removing the transmission dipstick and inserting a small necked funnel into the dipstick tube. Be careful not to overfill. As it will say on the dipstick, " check fluid level while in Park and idling"
