Question about 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan

1 Answer

Have replaced TPS twice. Take it apart put it back to gether runs fine for a will then later sputters and jerks. I think it may be a wire problem. But right now the engine wont start. when it does run will run well for a while then sputters again. the gas has to be in just the right spot for it to increase speed. or will sputter and not run well. Could it be the ignition coil. Not sure if it is a spark or fuel problem. Not a mechanical with gages and toold to check.

Mcdevito75 here, The unfortunate fact is, ----- the engines sensors can go out just like light bulb, you can install a brand new sensor and it could go out very fast, specially with all the after market brands. I would bring the car to a shop in your area for a computer read out and a new TPS of their brand.

I have 2006 chevy equinov 3.4l awd. When i push on the gas it will run fine for about half a mile then it starts sputtering and sounds like backfireing and jerking and stalls out.

What is year--make--model?
How long since a tune-up?
If you think it is fuel issue, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. There are some other tests you could try, but, too much liability, I can't be responsible for your safety.

I have a Chrysler Pacifica had the axles replace acts like it does not want to run in park is fineand in gear it jerks acts like it wants to cut off does replacing the axle cause this action

Who, or where were the axles replaced? If they were not properly installed, what you are saying could happen. The inner CV splines may not engaging properly, or the inner tri-pot joint may have been overextended and come apart. Have a trusted repair shop check into it.

I am curious to know what the scan told you when you originally checked it? A lot of people spend way more money than they should changing parts and guessing at the fix. Tell me a little more about the what the scan results.

My 3.8 olds silhouette keeps bogging and stalling took it to shop said it was egr put a new one on kept doing same thing took it back said it was air flow sensor put that on keeps doing same thing bogging...

Just took our 3.8 olds silhouette in for almost the same thing...first they changed and greased all the coils, yet it kept doing the puttering, soft bucking, and sputtering thing with just a bit of shifting would come up and then no codes would come up, so they changed out the is riding somewhat smoother, yet still has a little sputtering and even died once or twice but always starts right back up...they found a crack in the radiator that was leaking coolant on to the throttle positon sensor (TPS) , which now with the new computer in it, that is the only code coming our plans are to get a new throttle position sensor (TPS) and replace it ourselves, because we have already paid the mechanics shop $491.53 for the repairs stated above...but we have to replace the radiator before putting in a new sensor or it will get fouled up too! I am hoping the TPS replacement will finally cure my green space shuttle! I also hope this helps your predicament too!

I have a 94 Geo Prizm LSI 1.8L. I have a real odd hesitation, sputter. Before the car shut down, it drove fine, except that it you maintained a steady speed the car would sputter - but not when...

Try exchanging the MAP sensor from the other "good running" car. What I think you are experiencing is a flat MAP which fails to read more than the minimum. A MAP sensor out on these cars will make it run absolutely terrible and die as you have indicated.

By unplugging the TPS sensor you are effectively putting the car in "limp" mode. In this mode it ignores a potentially bad TPS, O2, and MAP sensors and or circuits.

Some times while driving the suv starts jerking

I would recommend you check the throttle position sensor ( TPS ). If possible you should get the vehicle scanned for any engine codes first.

Somewhere along the the line you may have a fuel blockage or a good dose of water in your fuel tank.Check the water in tank 1st.Add 1 litre of metholated spirits to every 20 litres of fuel. This will allow the water to break down and be burnt through the motor over time.Do this twice. If this does not work, there may be a glob of **** in the fuel tank that blocks the pickup. If this is the problem, the tank needs to be taken out and cleaned.I hope this is a start to get you back on the road.
