Question about 1995 Buick LeSabre

1 Answer

Horn honked randomly but is now constant. I have disconnected both wire connections at the 2 horns. Since as soon as one is connected, the horn sounds. How do I properly identity the voltage horn wire under the steering wheel so I can bypass the factory horn switch and install an aftermarket horn button?

Is there any way to locate that ground wire or the voltage wire without having to remove the steering wheel but from underneath?

If you take the steering wheel off you'll see the ground wire that grounds the constantly connected horn. Note the color of the insulation.

You could also reroute the wire from under the hood starting at the horns and simply connecting a switch that grounds the horn out to operate it with an outside switch, that is outside of the steering wheel.

Yes, just find the horn and follow the lead from there. It should always be energized with positive voltage or current and if you got a test light to complete the circuit to ground, it should honk.

It is possible that the horn's ground wire that leads to the steering wheel is shorted to ground. I would inspect the wire as far as you can go to see if maybe the insulation wore off of it, maybe even near the firewall.

Good luck to yo on this repair.

On 2002 olds Intrigue, installing new horns but as soon as wires are plugged in horn honks . Removed horn fuse and relay but horn still honks .when pushing horn button ,with no horns, the relay clicks

You may have wires that have become crossed. The wire to the horn and a hot wire have probably lost the outer insulation and crossed each other causing the horn to start honking when it is connected. Check the wires with an electrical tester.

Horn randomly honks(very annoying while your trying to sleep) HELP!

its possible that the relay is the problem as most relays have a second power feed wire,if it shorts to the horn side of the relay it can blow the horn.doesn`t happen very often but it does happen.this could explain the horn blowing without the fuse in.you can get a door key made at a lock smith to solve that problem.

you have either a blown fuse or the factory wire harness isnt connected to horn first check fuse owners manual will have location and description of fuses if ok retrace your steps when you hooked horn to new alarm you disconnected wire at horn or you cut the wire to access horn wiring

'97 Honda Accord- Horn honks spontaneously; honks several times in a random pattern every few minutes. Turning car off and restarting it seems to temporarily solve problem, but random honking will then...

THE SWITCH IN THE STEERING WHEEL IS PROBABLY GOING BAD OR HAS A LOOSE CONNECTION THAT IS GROUNDING OUT AND COMPLETETING THE CIRCUIT AT RANDOM. I REALLY DONT KNOW HOW OR WHY SHUTTING IT OFF WOULD TEPORARILY FIX THE PROBLEM BUT WITH ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE BELIEVE ME. ALSO TAKE A LOOK AT THE WIRING AND THE HORN ITSELF TO SEE IF EVERYTHING LOOKS OK THERE.

Horn honks when turning, randomly

sounds like a electrical problem. When you turn it is completing the circuit some how, sounds like wires are touching each other and making the horn honk when turning. easiest thing is remove the fuse if possible.

2004 yukon horn problem

obviously there is a short in the system probably in the wiring and likely it is exposed wiring. Motion, moisture, and heat would then effect the wiring and cause it too short out at different times and for varied lengths of times. driving your car would cause it to get hot under the hood, so after awhile the wiring shorts and your horn honks. Turning on and off the system causes motion and if it is stuck in a particular position when it shorts than the horn continues to honk
