I have a 2000 Olds Intrigue that has the starting problem that some people have spoke about. You turn the key and all lights come on but the car will not start nothing. I 1st replaced the ignition switch which did not correct the problem. To get around the problem I have connected a wire to my starter and ran the wire up to the battery and when the car acts up I take the wire touch the positive pole on the battery post and the starter will turn over. I then get in my car and use the key and start the car. I have not been stranded by the car since. I try the key a few times if nothing happens I'll wait a few minutes and if that does not do it I jump the starter with my wire. This has been working for the last 2 years. It's not a correction but it is a work around.

The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

Why my 99 gmc jimmy will crank all day long but wont start until I give it a jump

Wow, big problem. This may not help because you may have already checked it, but have you checked the ignition coil? If you have, then ignore this. Good luck.

Truck turns over and starts when I connect battery???? No key is even in the ignition.

Maybe the ignition is bad- or your starter solenoid stuck in engaged position?

Wont crank after charging

Can it be the antitheft system that makes trouble and wont let the engine start?I had a similar problem on my KIA Sportage 2002 and had to replace antitheft system and the main computer. It could also be the starter relay. Have a friend to turn the ignition key, and tap the starter relay (the one on the starter) as it may be stuck. Worth a try, as it would be the cheapest solution to the problem :-)

Starter wont engage, jumped starter with key on but dies immediately. repaced ignition switch and starter relay. even tried 2 extra spare keys. security light is flashing

This is a pretty common problem on GM vehicles. This is what is happening. Your vehicle has switched itself into ANTITHEFT mode. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM. Starter wont crank on a 2000 oldsmobile intrigue

Check your manual if you have it. I believe you need to have the key in the ignition in the ON position for about 10 minutes to reset the security system.

Starter wont crank with ignition key

Well, if you have a problem with the security system not allowing you to crank, then you have a problem that can be fixed only by the dealer.

Check your key and verify that it doesn't have a dirty or wet resistor on the security ignition key. This is a common problem with this type of security system.

Good luck on fixing this problem.
