Question about 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante

1 Answer

Intermittent misfiring I have a 94 Mitsubishi Diamante. When i first start the car in the morning it drives fine until the thermostat shows a normal temperature of the engine. After the car warms up it starts misfiring and the hotter the engine gets, the worth misfiring becomes. Sometimes I feel like 3 cylinders are missing at once. No power, seems like random cylinders missing at time to time. I replaced the fuel filter and also spark plugs and spark plug's wires were replaced a year ago too.  I also flushed cooling system and replaced the radiator.  No engine light or anything like that, just bad misfiring and a power loss when the engine is hot.

Had the same thing. The didtributor was going bad. Lived with it for a few months finally it died. 1 year after replacing the distributor the problem started again. Glad I got a warranty on the distributor. Running great now on the second distributor.

Have you checked to see if the fan unit is working? I had this happen to me until i realized the last mechanic didn't put the fuse in the right place so the fan wasn't turning on. Solved my problem immediately.

94 mitsubishi diamante station wagon (possible transmission problems)

The best thing to do is check the transmission fluid, vehicle in park engine warm and at operating temperature, check the transmission fluid, at the transmission dipstick,if you are in the marked range the fluid is not the problem if the fluid is dark almost black(which should be very red) then the transmission is burnt, which a replaced transmission is the solution,

By the sound of your problem your vehicle has an electronic automatic gear box but correct me if I am wrong..Now this can be caused due to a faulty electronic part but I cannot guarantee this.It may need a diagnostic tool hook up to the car to read the error code.(if it's giving a check engine light )

1995 Diamante overheats on hills.

Hi,
The heating up as you build revs, to me, indicates a partially oped thermostat. If it hasn't been replaced, I would do so. It's inexpensive and easy enough to do. Make sure you get a gasket with it.
The rattling thing is another matter. Do you think it is the water pump that is rattling? Does it ever drip from under your engine all the time?
Just curious...
Hope this helps... Good luck!
