HI. The power control module uses the throttle position,barometric pressure, intake air temperature, and engine rpm in order to calculate the predicted mass airflow rate. The PCM compares the predicted mass airflow value to the actual mass airflow value and the speed density calculation in order to verify the proper throttle operation. If the PCM detects that the difference between the actual air flow(MAF) and the speed density calculated air flow is greater than expected, the DTC will be set(P0068).

The necessary actions are to:

1. Inspect the throttle blade for broken, bent, or missing structural parts.
2. Inspect the TP sensor for proper installation. A mis aligned sensor will set this code.
3. Inspect the TAC module connectors for signs of water intrusions. When water infiltrates this module, multiple DTC codes mat be set with no DTC circuit or component conditions found during the diagnostic test.
4. Physically and visually inspect the throttle body assembly and correct any problems that you observe. Manually move the throttle blade form closed to wide open throttle. You should not need to use excessive force when doing this. The throttle blade should move smoothly through the full range and should return slightly to the open position on its own.
5.When the TAC module detects a condition within the TAC system, more than 1 TAC system related code may be set. This is due to the many redundant test that run continuously on this particular system. Locating and repairing one individual condition may correct more than one DTC(code). Disconnecting components during testing may set additional DTC(codes). Keep this in mind when you are reviewing the stored info, or captured info.

    I see. This will be the result of a failing catalytic converter. This device is blocked. The comb has collapsed. This is creating massive amounts of back pressure that is , essentially, choking out your cylinders. This will set many codes and damage your exhaust valves, if not corrected soon.Replace that CAT(s), asap.

    I would also replace the up and down stream O2 sensors, as well.

    • Additionally, check your battery for cracks or swollen structure. This is another area of concern, as well. I suspect the CAT, but it is always a rule of thumb to check the battery when you smell this sulfur additive.

Not something to do without scanning your OBD CODES.

If it still drives ...
Take it to the muffler shop & have them run your codes for you.

There are a couple of things that will get you into this trouble
and I'm thinking if you can get cleared by your friendly EXHAUST FOLKS you are into a couple of minor codes... Likely your TPS.

Dodge ram engine smokes when stated and skips

What color smoke? Black is emissions related, blue/black your burning oil and white your burning anti-freeze. With the "skip" your REF to, you probably have a bad spark plug, wire, or bad cylinder and burning some oil or coolant. CK plugs , wires & do a compression test. Pressure test Radiator for head gasket leak.

I am having the same problem. I replaced the speed sensor on the rear diff. and the problem went away but when i started it the next day the problem came back. If you figure it out let me know.

How do you bench test a sensor from a 1997 dodge pickup with 360 engine? Truck starts, runs, but stumbles, skips, when trying to step on it. bad sensor?

get a hanes book and it should have all the numbers for every sensor on the truck then get a multimeter and go to town
