The electronic sound for 4 or 5 seconds that you hear is probably the fuel pump energizing. I don't think you would hear this if the fuse was bad.

Take it to an electric shop for automobiles to determine the problem more accurately. It's worth the labor.

Good luck.

WONT START HAS A NEW FUEL PUMP BATTERY IS GOOD

Is there spark coming from plugs . Electronic ignition? Check fuse box for blown fuses .
Pull a wire out from spark plug and place it near the plug. Start engine while someone else watches if there is spark going ( do not handle wire when doing this ) if new pump it has to be primed before use .

2005 GRANDAM GT CRANKS BUT WONT START

Well, there are several basics your engine needs to start: Spark, fuel, compression, and correct valve timing. I am going to assume on good faith that your GT has the 3.4 liter V6. Here are a couple basics on checking fuel and spark:
GM usually puts a schraeder valve (looks like a tire air valve) on the fuel rail. This is where you connect a fuel pressure gauge to test the fuel pressure. It should be 52-59 PSI when you turn the key to run.
If your fuel pressure is good, remove a spark plug wire from one of the front 3 spark plugs. If you have a spark tester, connect it to the removed plug wire. If you don't have a spark tester, remove the spark plug. Plug the removed spark plug or tester into the plug wire. Touch the metal threads of the plug or tester to a good solid metal part of the engine using gloves or non-conducting (plastic) pliers. Have someone try to start the engine. Watch the gap at the end of the spark plug. You should see a bright blue/white spark and hear it snap every time it fires. If you don't, there may not be any spark getting to the engine. Diagnosis of the problem can be far trickier from here on out. You will need to be able to diagnose electrical problems in the fuel/ignition system to find the root cause of no fuel/no spark.

If you cannot hear the fuel pump run in the tank when you turn the key to run, try lightly rapping the bottom of the fuel tank with a hammer turned to its side (don't put a hole in your fuel tank!) while someone cranks the engine over. If the engine starts, most likely cause is a failed fuel pump. Don't expect the car to keep starting on a regular basis if it does start by hitting the tank. The fuel pump will need to be replaced.

Check your fuses. also check the fuel pump fuse if blown the car will not start. If the car turnes over but wont start this the problem ok. it could also be the fuel pump if it's electronic and u are in a quiet area and turn the key in to the on position u should hear the Pump getting power if u dont then the Fuel pump is not working ..Hope this Help's

I have a 1999 jeep cherokee that wont start. it's not getting fire to the distributor. what may be the problem?

Most likely the ignition coil assembly, in some cases the ignition module is faulty.

My 5.0 fuel injected f150 started and ran fine for about three seconds died and would not restart whats up?

Fuel pump, fuel pump fuse, vacuum hose loose. Start with the simple things first. If you turn the key to the on position and you hear a slight humming sound that's the fuel pump sending fuel to the injectors. Means the pump is ok. Then you would check the fuel injector(s) to see if they are putting out fuel. If so look for loose,, broken, or cracked vacuum hoses. Also, check ignition fuse(s) under the hood.Hope this helps.
