Sounds like it overheated, stuck thermostat possibly, remove and check thermostat.
On your engine problem It is possible that you have a blown head gasket, that can be determen by a compression test, remove the spark plugs and insert a pressure gage hose in the plug hole tighten by hand have somebody crank the engine 4 revolutions, check the pressure on all cylinders to determined problem, more than 10 psi difference indicate a more serious problem. low coolant, gas cap not tight, few other minor things. pay a mechanic 40 bucks to have them scan it in case it's something big.

Check and make sure that there are no vacum lines disconnected if all else fails you can go to any autozone or advance auto parts store and they will scan your car for free! and tell you why it is on.

How do i replace the thermostat in 2001 chevy blazer?

Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine. Right where the radiator hose clamps is the thermostat housing. Remove the 2 bolts that hold the housing on and the thermostat is inside.
