My 99 Grand Am GT will not crank. Was running

Lock cyl not the problem. The true switch is at the base if the steering column on its top side. A rod actuates it when you turn the key. Sometimes after being pushed on by the rod so many times, the switch moves out of the rods reach, travel. and ,well you know the rest. So, to correct, simply find the switch, loosen the screws, move the switch up the column as far as the screws permit, then tighten down the screws(bolts)_ and give it a whirl. Ned

with the car turned off, insert the key, switch in on, do not try to crank. press the gas pedal to the floor , all the way, three times within 5 seconds. switch the key off , wait 20 seconds, crank the car. this should do it.

I was driving my 99 grand am out of my drive when it died. Like some one just reach over and turned the key off. Cranks real good just won't start. Need all the help I can get.....

sounds like fuel pump quit. It is electric and is in gas tank.
Have someone turn key on while you listen real good at fuel tank area. It shold buzz for 2 seconds & stop. If no buzz, hit bottom of tank with a rubber mallot or something similar. Try to see if pump runs now. If yes, debris getting stcuk or startting to fail.

That is an intake backfire, meaning you have the valve timing wrong. Not quite sure right now on what it should be but check timing belt position and valve timing gear positions.
