Sounds like a sensor is dirty or going bad. Sometimes have to replace whole hub assembly to get the abs sensor included. Depending on where you get the part, it can cost $55 to $75 and up for the hub assembly and 1 or 2 hours of labor to replace it.

This is a common problem for the ABS and Trac to fail simultaneously due to the wheel speed sensing not to be readable by the ABS module.

Probably your ABS module is ok.

Good luck on fixing this one.

There is not a sensor on the wheels, and the trouble code is P 1684.

There is a speed sensor on this abs system.

    Speed Sensors
    Removal & Installation
    Front Speed Sensor
    To Remove:

    1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
    2. Remove the front tire and wheel assembly.
    3. Remove the screws securing the routing clamps.
      CAUTION
Do not damage the pins in the connector when disconnecting the speed sensor connector.

    4. Remove the speed sensor cable grommets from the intermediate bracket on strut.
    5. Disconnect the speed sensor electrical connector behind fender well shield.
    6. Remove the speed sensor head mounting bolt.
      CAUTION
If sensor is difficult to remove due to corrosion, Do not pull on the sensor with pliers. Tap the edge of sensor ear with a punch and hammer and rock the sensor side-to-side until free.

    7. Remove sensor head from steering knuckle.

    To Install:

    CAUTION
Always install the sensor and wiring in the original position.

    1. Connect the speed sensor electrical connector.
    2. Install the cable routing clamps to the body of the vehicle.
    3. Insert the cable grommets into the intermediate bracket on strut.
    4. Install the speed sensor on the knuckle. Tighten the bolt to 105 in. lbs. (12 Nm)
    5. Install the front wheel and tire assembly and lower the vehicle.
    6. Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation of the ABS brake systems.

    Rear Speed Sensor
    To Remove:

    1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
      CAUTION
Do not damage the pins in the connector when disconnecting the speed sensor connector.

    2. Remove the grommet from the floor pan and disconnect the speed sensor connector.
      CAUTION
Make sure not to damage the routing clips on the brake hose. The brake hose will need replacement if the clips are broken.

    3. Carefully remove the speed sensor cable from the routing clips.
    4. Remove the yellow retaining clip at rear of wheel speed sensor head.
    5. Push up on metal retaining clip until it bottoms. This will release the speed sensor from the hub.
    6. Remove the speed sensor from the hub.

    To Install:

Rear wheel speed sensor cable routing

    CAUTION
Always install the sensor and wiring in the original position.

    1. Lubricate the sensor O-ring with wheel bearing grease.
NOTE: If metal sensor retaining clip is not in the neutral installed position on hub, install from the bottom and push clip upward until it snaps into position.

    2. Install wheel speed sensor into hub aligning index tab with the notch in the top of the mounting hole. Push the sensor in until it snaps into place on the metal retaining clip.
    3. Install the yellow retaining clip over the speed sensor and engage the tabs.
    4. Route the sensor cable in the original position.
    5. Connect the sensor cable to vehicle wiring harness. Be sure the connector is fully seated.
    6. Install the cable grommet in floor pan.
    7. Lower the vehicle.
    8. Road test the vehicle to ensure proper operation of the ABS braking system.

I have a 2001 Sequoia replaced connectors to battery. Now E brake light ABS light Trac Off and VSC Trac light are on. I disconnected ground and let it sit. Had code ran and it said open closed circuit abs?...

More than likley its your VSC computer (VSC Trac, VSC Off, E brake and ABS brake lights all lit). This problem has been sited on other Sequoias that had the TSB brake caliper/rotor upgrade (recall) and that more than likely the VSC software or computer was not updated to meet the demands of the newly installed brake upgrade.

Vt commodore problems My 98 VT wagon has real

run a fault code reader to reset the abs and trac lights as the trac light uses the same sensor as the abs.. IF the pedal is still soft then there is still air in the brake system. You may have to crack the lines at the master cylinder first and bleed there first then start at the longest line and work back to the shortest

I have a 97 lumina an my trac light just came on and now my brakes are really hard to stop what could be wrong??

HAVE VECHICLE CODE SCAN SOUND LIKE FAULTY WHEEL SPEED SENSOR.WHEN YOU SEE LOW TRAC LIGHT YOU ABS BRAKE SYSTEM IS ADJUSTING BRAKE PRESSURE TO KEEP CAR FROM SKIDDING LIKE WHEN YOU ARE ON SLIPPERY WET ROADS OR ICE. IF YOU SEE LOW TRAC LIGHT YOU HAVE A PROBLEM IN ABS BRAKE AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM.

I don't understand the whole traction light thing. my car always says trac off-except when it says low trac and slides like it's on ice.

TAKE CAR TO A GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP HAVE THE ABS BRAKES AND TRACTION CONTROL CODE SCAN.YOUR ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WILL COME ON ADJUSTING BRAKE PRESSURE TO AVOID A SKID.THAT WHY LOW TRAC LIGHT COMES ON. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN YOU SEE LOW TRAC LIGHT DRIVING ON DRY ROADS PROBLEM IS IN THE ABS BRAKE UNIT OR BAD WHEEL SPEED SENSOR.

My trac light says trac off, and my abs light is on. what does that mean? I have a 1999 grand am Pontiac.

the trac light is the traction control, the abs light means the antilock brake system is not functioning properly. the trac control is no issue. the abs will not cause the brakes to fail but they will lock instead of pulsing.

What cause the brake fluid light and the trac light and the brake light come on at the some time?

brake fluid light goes on when the fluid is low. The traction control light may go on as well if the module detects a fault in the traction control system. The abs light may go on at the same time as the trac light if the wheel speed sensor is not sending a believable signal to the abs/trac module.

If one of the wheel speed sensors is faulty, or a hub is bad, that can cause the problem described.

Good luck on repairing this problem.

What do i do when the anti brake like has just come on. and what does it mean when the trac light is on?

ANY TIME ABS LIGHT OR TRAC LIGHT COMING ON THAT MEANS EITHER ONE IS NOT WORKING NOT GETTING NO OR ENOUGH POWER.CHECK ABS FUSE AND RELAYS. IF RELAY AND FUSE OKAY.MAKE SURE YOUR ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE OUT PUT AT BATTERY SHOULD BE 13.5 TO 14.5 VOLTS IF 11.0 VOLTS DUE TO VOLTAGE REGULATOR FAILURE. THAT WILL CAUSE ABS AND TRAC LIGHT TO COME ON.IF ALTERNATOR CHECKS OUT OKAY.TAKE VECHICLE TO GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP THEY HAVE TO SCAN THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM.

CHECK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE TRANSMISSION FLUID ON FRONT BRAKE ROTOR OR BRAKE PADS.IF BRAKES CONTAMINATED THE TRAC LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT WILL COME ON.IF ALL LOOKS GOOD LET DEALERSHIP CHECK OUT THE ABS BRAKES AND TRAC SYSTEM.THEY HAVE TO USE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO FIX THE PROBLEM.

2003 Chevy Impala Service Traction Sytem show on Dash

I can't answer the question about the gas fumes, but I had the same problem last year with the "Service Traction Sysytem" message and the Trac and ABS lights coming on in my Impala. Mine turned out to be because of a bad wheel bearing, that was causing the ABS and traction system not to work. I'm not sure if you've experienced this, but another thing that would happen with mine was that I would go to brake and have a hard time depressing the brake pedal, almost like it was pushing back. That is the point when the Trac and ABS lights came on.
