Replaced the hydro boost, trying to "bleed" the brakes. Brake pedal is stuck to the floor...

Did you remove the pin from center of the old booster and put it in the new one?

I have replaced 3 of 4 disc calipers on my pt cruiser. I have bleed brakes on all 4 calipers and have good brake pedal until I start the car.When I start the car the brake pedal goes to the floor.


Are you loosing brake fluid after you tighten that bleeder screw back? Your brake booster helps aid in the vacuum of the car - if you have an internal issue with that brake booster - you should check any vacuum lines coming off that booster. If you can answer with your year, make and model I can get you a more in depth answer - there are other things that can be causing your issues as well - from the master cylinder to other things. Good Luck. There's also a way to test that brake booster - do you have a pressure/vacuum gauge?

Have you checked the master brake cylinder reservoir for brake fluid loss?

I don't suspect the master cylinder as you have replaced it... but am more suspect of a leaking brake line or fitting which should have
been discovered when you had the system bled.

The only time I ever had a rear brake problem with a 2500 series Chevrolet was due to seized rear brake caliper guide pins...as your calipers are also new that is not your problem.

If your brake pedal feels spongy and travels to the floor board you have air in the system, a brake fluid leak or a failure in the power steering system, such as a broken hose, broken power steering pump drive belt, or failed pump, would result in a loss of pressure to both the hydro-boost and steering.

You need to add BRAKE fluid. After that, blead your brakes. You need to find out where the brake fluid went. If there are no leaks, you need to check the remaining life on all four brake sets. If you have no leaks, chances are pretty good that you need new brakes.

Shouldn't be anything different.
Hydro-boost is different as far as the boost part goes.

You changed the master cylinder and vacuum booster and have no leaks anywhere, but did you bleed the entire brake system after you did this work? A little bit of air in any of the lines will make the brakes ineffective.

It's very possible to be the master cylinder, the o-rings on the piston could be worn, letting the fluid seep back through instead of getting full pressure through the lines. Could also be the brake booster.
Try changing the master cylinder first, which is cheaper and easier, and see if there is a difference, you'll need to bleed the brakes again.
To check the booster,
With the engine off, pump the brakes until the pedal is hard, then hold pressure on the brake pedal and listen for air escaping, or the pedal goes slowly to the floor, Do that after the master cylinder has been changed, at least that will be eliminated.

I have a 92 chrsy. 5th ave with no antilock brakes. just base brakes with rear drums. replaced master cly. due to leaking and replaced all the brake lines and hoses. i have good streams of fluid from all 4...


When you bleed the brakes are you starting with brake furthest from the master cylinder? Also was the master cylinder bench bled? If everything there is okay and you are not getting any air in fluid stream, you could try bleeding the brakes by having some one slowly pump the pedal till it is firm. Then have them let off open first bleeder valve and slowly depress to floor and hold there untol the valve is closed. repeat this at all bleeders. You may want to have car running to do this. Try this and let me know.

1997 FORD F250 XLT 4WD - Had a hard brake pedal with hardly any brakes while standing on them. Replaced booster and wheel cylinders at same time now the pedal is mushy and no brakes.


They need to be bleed again all four wheels but your vacuum pump may be bad since diesels don't have vacuum then have to have a pump, check that the booster one way check valve is good if you can blow thew it both ways it's bad, to bleed start from the wheel farthest away from the master cylinder pump the brakes 5 times and hold down then open the bleed valve keep doing this until you get clear fluid out of each wheel once you have done that if it is still mushy and you know you have vacuum re bleed with engine running this will help push more out with power assist. most like the hard brake pedal had to do with no vacuum check out the pump. You may also have to reset the 2 way check valve if you need help with this let me know.

the brakes have to be bleed you wrote that when you start the car the pedal goes to the floor that means the booster is working fine take it back and tell them you want the brakes bleed
