SOURCE: 1982 chevy truck with dual gas tanks with guage or tank problems

all you need to do is listen to hear the tank switching valve is working. It will make a soft noise under the rear cab section with the key on with the engine off. zif you do hear it sounding the switch your tank unit for that one tank you try to switch to is a fault. Sorry no illustrated diagrams are on hand, just knowledge

1988 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4. Newly purchased dual fuel tank has an internal fuel pump, an inline pump, a fuel tank selector unit, and what looks like a second fuel tank selector unit (which is leaking).

The black reservoir/fuel tank selector unit you are referring to is the fuel tank switching valve, which is designed to switch between the two fuel tanks in your 1988 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4. This valve is responsible for directing fuel from the selected tank to the fuel pump and engine.
The second fuel tank selector unit you mentioned (part number 5sv2k) is likely a replacement part for the original fuel tank selector unit. It is not intended to replace the fuel tank switching valve.
The dual fuel tank system in your Ford Ranger requires both the fuel tank switching valve and the fuel tank selector unit to function properly. The fuel tank selector unit allows the driver to switch between the two fuel tanks, while the fuel tank switching valve directs fuel from the selected tank to the fuel pump and engine.
If the black fuel tank switching valve is leaking or malfunctioning, it should be replaced to ensure proper operation of your dual fuel tank system.

92 Ford F250 fuel selector switch

According to the diagram for an 8 cylinder truck, the fuel pumps get power from a 20amp Maxi fuse which goes to the pump relay in the engine compartment.
Then the power goes to the inertia switch, then to the select switch, then to the selected pump.
Do you have power at the selector switch from the inertia switch ?

Where would the fuel tank selector valve be located at in a 88 ford f250 be at?

the selector is located between the two tanks and has 3 or 4 fuel lines connected to it as well as wires if its an electrical switch.some had a manual switch which is usually behind the front seat on the floor that switches the tanks from one to the other when turned.

Fuel pumps will not run!

Hey lets try this ! Locate your starter solenoid & look for a yellow wire marked with a "W" . That may be the fusible link for fuel pump. Let me know what you find.

No fuel getting to the engine

Sometimes but what controls the switching is the selector thats right in front of the first tank closes to driver.Check your fuses first and have someone listen to the fuel pump and selector to hear any movement..You can also check for power at the selector if no power then follow wires up to rule out bad wires and fuses and relays..Also the thing you think is another pump is the tank selector. When you push button in dash thats what switches it to the tank you preferred..

When I switch from my front fuel tank to my rear tank gas stops

There is no selector valve on a 1995 ford f150 300 engine. The selector switch on the dash sends power to the pump in the selected tank. The pump then sends fuel to the engine. If engine won't run on the selected switch, the pump in that tank needs replaced.
