Question about 1999 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

My 1999 Ford Taurus (3.0 L V-6 Vulcan engine) is having problems with the speedometer. In cool weather it works fine. However during hot weather it works sporadicaaly. I could be driving down the road and it wopuld quit working. In the past this would occur when I turned on the a/c. I would have to stop shut downn the a/c and turn off he engine for a minut or two. When I turned the engine back on it would work. Recently after going through these steps it would quit woring again even with the a/c turned off.

If the check engine light is on you should get the codes checked for free at someplace like autozone etc. This could be the torque conver clutch solenoid or the speedometer sensor that causes this.

No high idle for cold start have replaced IAC still nothing. truck idles at 1000 during cold or hot weather

Needs to be tested for power/ground and control signals at the IAC. Also should be smoke checked for vacuum leaks. Recommend a mechanic at this point as throwing parts at it has not fixed it.

Can will not start when hot outside. Turns over. No battery problem

I had a similar problem. my 99 taurus wouldn't start after it was hot until engine cooled down enough. It turned out that it was the fuel pump. It provided enough pressure when the engine was cool but as it heated up, the pressure would decrease. Then the engine was not getting enough fuel to even start.

The circuit is expanding in hot wheather to the point where it is broken. In cold whether circuits and circuit boards contract slightly, reconnecting a weak solder point. Do you have an intermittant check engine light? Is it constantly on? If so new problems can arise, but the check engine light will not tell you about any new issues, it simply remains on. Get it diagnosed at any shop with any OBD2 interface to diagnose your cars specific issues. If not, just save time and replace the starter. It's probably different from engine to engine...you either have a 3.0 liter vulcan V6 or the zoomier 24 valve V6. Call the parts counter at any ford dealer and say the right things and the parts guy may tip you off on known issues. I had a 96 24v..it was a pile.
