In ordetr to help u need to know if the system pressure drops on the low side, that indicates a leak, leaks are very hard to detect on the R134 systems, the reason is this, the oil used in the system is synthetic and it evaporates quickly, so no residue is left or very little, u need a leak detection tool to really find them, the common leaks are the compressor seal and the other is the condensor core, I have 35 years of experience to draw on here. Just so I iunderstand this u added 2 cans and then it got warm again in how long? this much gas can leak out within hours from a copmpressor seal or condensor leak, I really believe u have a leak here, nothing else would explain this scenario

My compressor comes on but no cold air in volkswagon bettle 1999

Same thing happened with my '99 Beetle when I first got it. Everything seemed to be working, but no cold air. Thought I'd give it a shot, so I bought a can of R134a refrigerant at the auto parts store. Decided to get the kind with dye in it so I could tell if it was leaking; the can I found had a built-in hose so I didn't have to buy one of those as well.

Took it home and followed the instructions to fill the AC and sure enough, that was all it took. When I got curious several months later, I did see evidence of dye around both the expansion valve and the compressor pulley, but a year later it still seems to be holding and blowing cold air.

Can't say you'll be as lucky with yours, but a can of R134a is a fairly cheap fix if that's all it takes as it was with mine.

Cold/hot knob doesnt seem to work stays on hot

have the ac system tested for leaks as the can you put in will either be too much or the can will have been pumped out of the leak. Best leave this operation to the professionals as the amount is critical to correct operation and they check for leaks in the system before they start .

Im working on a1988 Cadilac deville , replaced ac compressor , accumlator , orfus tube . i also vaccumed the system , reset computer . started car filled with 134a . worked fine till i drove for bout 1mi ....

Your have a low refrigerant level. Econ staying on and service ac will stay on too. Sounds like you didnt put enough r134a in the system. How much r134a did you add? Capacity is 38 ounces(thats
with R12), and a bit less than that for r134a.

The most common cause in these cars is low refrigerant charge (R134A refrigerant). The safest and proper way is to have the system leak tested and the AC pressures tested with gauges. That said many people buy the precharged cans of refrigerant that come with a charging hose and low side (this is the side refrigerant is added to) charge indicator for about $20. These cans also contain oil for the A/C system. Don't overcharge the system.

Note if you have a leak it will quit again. How long it'll last depends on the nature and severity of the leak.

Does anyone know if a 1999 Dodge caravan 4 cylinder , takes R14 or R134a, my air conditioner is blowing hot and I wanted to see if I can fix it with a bottle of r134.

You should be able to use r134 without any problems but if you have a leak in the system it won't stay cold long.Depending on the size of the leak if any will determine how long it stays cold like if you have a really small leak it might stay cold for a few days or maybe even a week if the leak is bigger might be cold for just hours or like one day.You might not even have a leak as the vehicle is 11 years old and may just need recharged.

The air works great when it works. Then all the sudden it quits cooling, the compressor shuts off, and dont come back on. It seems to happen when it gets above 75 outside.

You will have to look into this further but I wouldn't rule out a High Pressure Cut-off Switch in the AC system. One thing you might have on your side is Newer vehicles run R134a refrigerant which is not an Ozone depleter like R12. that makes things easier for you to replace with the help of your local auto parts store. You can get R134a and air conditioner condenser oil in One and it is easy for you to put in. So first off you might want to make sure you are not low on R134a/not too full either, if the system does not leak and is to proper proportion of R134a the I would look at the High pressure cut off switch. (does it get extra cold before shutting off?)

The most probable cause is that you have a leak in your A/C system..and it needs to be serviced with R134A and a can of red dye added so the leak can be found..i hope this helps ya...Keith
