Question about 2000 Honda Civic

1 Answer

I have a 2000 honda scooter, thought my battery was dead. Put in a new battery and it still has no power, crank, lights and etc. Do you have a suggestion? Thanks for being there! for us dummies! PS: It's not a civic, I just checked that so I could send this out.

Sounds to me like its a bad ground. check the negative battery cable comming off the battery where it bolts to the frame. take it off and sand it and the frame down a little bit with sandpaper then bolt it back on and try that. its hard to tell what it could be with out seeing it, but sounds like its a ground problem to me

New battery and new starter but still will not crank only clicks

More than likely the charging system is not working and allowing the battery to run down/low. Put a voltmeter on the battery and raise the engine about 2000 rpm and the battery should read 13.5-15.5 volts with all electronics on (fans switch on high, flashers, wipers, headllights, defrost etc). It should also read about 13.5 volts at idle but may not depending on the load from the accessories and voltage regulator. Most important is that it will read 13.5-15.5 volts when the engine is at 2000 rpm with the accessories on. If it does not read in that range the charging system(alternator most likely) has a charging problem.

You had better recheck your connections because the batteries are polarity reversed

Check the connections on the starter, and on the battery cables from the Honda. I know it sounds funny but I had the same problem with my BMW. It turned out there was corrosion on the the cables and it wasn't getting all the juice. Corrosion and or loose connections to the starter could be your problem...Hope this helps.

It sounds like your alternator is bad. East way to confirm, take it to local auto parts store (IE: Autozone, Advance, etc) and have them do a FREE charging system test. Couple of thoughts; you have two new batteries and your poor alternator has to work twice as hard. After you put new batteries in, you've been running on straight battery power. Alternator normally runs all your electronics and recharges battery(s) but if Alt has gone "south" then you're on straight battery power.

Start with the simple first. Check the voltage in the battery. Some new batteries are not fully charged. Next, clean the battery cables. Make the connectors shine and put a little electrical grease on the connectors.
