Question about 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis

1 Answer

Loud Hum coming from under car hood.

After driving a while, there is a hum that comes from under the car hood. It's coming from the left hand side, near the front left tire. We ruled out bad bearings and might think its a failing power steering pump. We're just not 100% sure.

It stops when I put the car in park, and oddly enough the car revs up quickly and idles back down normally before the hum stops. The car has never stalled.

Low pitch humming noise

May well be. You might want to check your coolant. If you're low (but not yet overheating) your fan will come on more often.

Loud hum from under the hood. heavy vibration fron air filter all the way to top of engine

Hello,
I think the loud hum is coming from the exhurst. The exhurst either has a cut/hole or the rubber holding the exhurst has removed. This will make the exhurst begin to shake and vibrate.
Turn on the car, go under the car, then ask someone to press the throttle. This will reveal where the vibration is coming from.
Keep me posted.
Good luck.

Have a strange humming noise that can be heard

Hi:
Often "humming" noises like what you are experiencing are caused by a failing bearing somewhere. Some usual suspects are wheel bearings, alternator bearings, and sometimes even your waterpump, but usually it starts leaking too. To start narrowing down what it is, have someone ride with you to see if the noise is coming from left side or right side, or engine area, then see if it happens when the car is not moving, or just when the drive wheels are pulling the car? This way , hopefully you can pin point the culprit!

My car vibrates causing this loud hum while

Hi:
;You most likely have a wheel bearling or hub assembly that is bad. You should be able to narrow the hum down to one side or the other. Other possibilities are a noisy engine accessory, such as a bad bearing on a alternator, or power steering pump, but you should be able to make that noise show up, just by rev ving up the engine, so if it only shows up when the car is moving, check out your wheel bearings.

Sounds like you need a fuel pump. The first indication of a fuel pump issue is a hum or drone noise.

Very loud Hum under driver side

There is an ABS fuse under the hood that you can take out, and the noise will quit. The noise is accually your ABS pump. They are kind of expensive.

Hi ea
Im dave

The loud low hum sounds like a wheel bearing although i cant actually hear it. Does the sound get louder on right turns? Brake light coming on usually means low fluid check your fluid resorvoir if it below the max mark fill to the max mark. If it has run dry you probably need to bleed your brakes. The light however could mean your handbrake isnt fully released. Be sure it is all the way off if fluid level is adequate and the positioning of the cable is not kinked somewhere under the handbrake.
