Check engine light is blinking and beeping

lost the operators guide, ?
it answers that.!
all OBD2 cars from 1996 do that, not beep , the blink
it means you are burning up your CAT converters.
when the EFI system goes hey wire, (means lost control of fueling or spark) it goes rich, and rich burns up cats.
the flashing means, get cars serviced NOW.
so you dont need $1000 parts.

here it is, if lost

RTM it there.

Why does not start?

I have never heard of an engine noise being described as a tick tack rattling noise. (I assume you mean Tick Tack candy/breathmints?) \

Either way, if it doesnt start, but just makes a rattling/knocking sound, I would ask you did it just quit on you and not restart? Or did it get you where you were going and then would not start when you were ready to leave? If the answer to the first question is yes, then you are likely facing a broken timing belt. The sound you hear are the valves coming into contact with the pistons when you are cranking the starter. This is a bad sound. Lets hope your answer was no to the first and yes to the second. Are you sure have gas? I cannot tell you how many times people have told me "It just won't start!" only to pour a gallon of gas in and varrroooom! What about oil? The tick tack sound just doesn't sound like a healthy engine sound in my head. Do you have oil in the engine? Does somebody hate you enough to drop nuts and bolts into your intake manifold? That would sound like tick tacks. BIG GIANT tick tacks, but tick tacks nonetheless.

The car at a certain speed the rpm tact will go up and down and it is very bad on gas since that started. I changed the egr and it solved the problem for one day. help!!!

I assume the tack is going up/down and that means the engine is reving up/down. This could be a transmission gear slip. Change the fluid, make sure you add 1 qt of Lucas Trans Fix. The next thing you should do is put it on the computer to see if you have any transmission codes.

Your drop in MPG's may be due to running on a lower gear which means your engine works harder at higher speeds.

Instrument panel guages work one day the not the next, whats the problem?

It's tach, not tack, short for tachometer. Were these gauges installed by unionized people? It could have been the gauges' day off, as per their collective agreement.
Most instrument panel woes are caused by bad grounds. Most panels are below the front glass, and if this leaks, guess where the water goes? Dashboard problems are a bear to fix sometimes, and costly in terms of labor. Have someone steal the car.

Battery is strong but when I tey to start I get a loud "tack-tack-tack." I'm guessing it's my starter, but could it be the solenoid or something else? 130K, this vehicle has been very solid (apart from the...

I have a question lingering in my head of how you know the battery is "strong". The symptom you are describing is one of a weak battery, but it also has a few other culprits. Just because a battery will power your interior lights/radio and headlights does not mean it is a strong battery.

Test the battery with a multimeter, preferably one that checks for current under load. If it checks out, then try the following.

Clean your battery posts or if you have the type that the battery cable screws intot he battery...clean the threads inside the hole. Next clean the cable's ends that connect to the battery...both positive and negative.

Next step you need to get under your vehicle and may need to jack it up to get some room to move around. Find where the positive battery cable meets the starter. Unscrew it and clean all those connections with a wire brush or sandpaper, also clean up the bolt itself that holds the cable to the starter/solenoid.

Follow the negative cable to where it meets your frame, clean the connections there also.

While doing all of this, look for any breaks/cracks in your battery cables. replace as needed.

If none of the above work, then replace the starter solenoid. While you have it all off your vehocle, it can save some time to also take your starter in with you to have it tested for free while at the auto parts store.

Hope this helps.

Tachometer doesnt work on my 86 ford do i fix this problem?

if the car has a distributor ignition system, the tack wire comes from the distributor plug, not sure what color the wire is, the tack gets it's reading from one of these wires. check wire from back of tack. trace to distributor and check connections. if connected, tack is probably bad.
