If the alternator is ok & fuses are ok the battery may be the problem sometimes when a battery is faulty it will not charge, try another battery & see what happens....hope this helps.....cheers

Alternator fuse location

there is a 175 amp mega fuse located on the passenger side of the cowl (upper firewall area) Check this fuse, you will likely find it blown. Should be near arrow 2 in the picture below.

It looks like this:

I have changed 5 alternator in one day which where no good...I checked my 175 mega fuse it is ok i check the 30 amp fuse which had a 10amp fuse changed it to a 30 amp fuse but made it worse.. also check...

Five bad alternators in a row borders on the incredulous. 2, 3 maybe, but 5 is a Guinness world record! I have to ask the 30 amp fuse made what worse? Is it not charging? Have you tested the battery? Maybe it has a dead cell, won't take a charge. Recheck battery connections and grounds. Test the battery or try a different good battery. What testing tools are you using?

I have a 97 Sable and battery light came on and everything started going wacky. Lost all guages, speedometer, RPMs, etc. All lights came on my dash. Then all my lights went out and the car died. I was told...

that's becasue the new abattery went dead because it was not charging. The battery light must be OFF to charge the battery. Take it back to whoever fixed it. May be a bad wire betwen battery & alternator too.

check the 175 amp mega fuse in the engine compartment.

cehck this ground for a good connection - G104

check the 20 amp fuse for the charging system. Fuse 26 in teh engine compartment fuse box.

What is an ECM BATT malfunction? Is my ecm bad?

Maybe, maybe not. An automobile ECM has no internal battery and uses the battery under the hood for power. Check the battery to make sure the connections are tight and secure. A computer ECM does have a battery and it is located on the mother board. Simply remove and replace it with like kind.

Just bought a 1999 f150 pick up. the guy said he was having a charging problem and replaced the battery and altonator. He had a big sterio in it and removed that so right now it has no sterio. He had it...

Start with having the alternator tested ( out of the truck, not just a meter test like Autozone would do ) and have the battery load tested.

Could be the alternator field fuse is blown, this is the 20A fuse in the same block as the mega fuses on the firewall.
Also check the connector at the alternator to make sure it is in good shape, some times the connector will get gummed up.

first test alternator check to see if it is putting out 13 to 13.5 volts on idle, or 14 to 14.5 rev ving to about 2000 rpm, if it does not charge that much it will be the voltage regulator on the alternator, or it might be the battery not holding charge, take the top covers/cover off the battery check to see if water levels are ok if not you got a couple of choises, replace the battery, or fill the ports with ionised water DO NOT USE TAP WATER!!!!!!!!!!! it has to be ionised water top up the battery and charge overnight on a battery charger check the voltage when you put it back on the vehicle, if it drops drasticly when turning over vehicle you will have to change the battery.....hope this helps
