Question about Honda S2000

1 Answer

Interior lights do not go on when door is open. All other functions do work, fuse is good, bulbs are good (since reading lights work). However, when I removed the cover to check the bulbs and clean the contacts (they were shiny clean) the reading lights stopped working. However, jiggling the switch back and forth got them working once again. Should I replace the switch?

Why would jiggling the overhead switch make a difference about the reading lights working or not? Should I really replace the door jam switch or the overhead switch?

I assume if the interior light didn't work at all you would have said so.

When the interior light works but the courtesy light function doesn't the culprit is usually the door switch or switches.
Sometimes located at or near the striker plate the pillar at the door hinge end is a more common location for the switch to be (usually) secured with a single screw, though sometimes a rubber cover must be removed to access the screw.

The function of the switch is to ground a single wire when the door is opened. Sometimes a switch must be replaced and sometimes a thorough clean and a spot of lubrication will put matters right.

Interior light won't come on when I open the front doors

If you have tried to adjust your interior lights with your dash light adjuster, and it didn't work, I would say you either have a bulb out, or a blown fuse. Hope it's something simple for you. GOOD LUCK

I'm having a problem with the dome light and both reading lights. they all stopped working at the same time. I checked the fuses and they look fine. The car is a 2004 Buick Century I don't know if it's...

For your first problem I would suggest taking a test light and double checking the fuses I would always recommend doing that because I have worked on numerous vehicles where the fuses were pulled and not replaced firmly and not making contact (just a good thorough habit to get into) if your fuse has power check for power on either your dome or personal reading lamps they are both on the same circuit. If you have power then replace the bulbs if not you will need to check for power between the lights to your illuminator/interior light switch this should isolate if you have a defective circuit ie:shorted, cut, loose wire connection which would need to be repaired. Your second problem the trunk open indicator showing it is still on when closed: open your trunk with the key on have someone push the trunk lid jamb switch several times to check for proper function if it still shows to be opened then it will need to be replaced if it goes on and off as it should then you should check your weather strip/struts and all components & function of trunk to ensure it is properly closing and not out of proper alignment. Hope this helps and if you have any more questions let me know.

Headlights and door locks not working

Fuse is probably blown out. Replace fuses for respective functions. Find the fuse box: might be in engine near battery or below steering wheel. open top and check for blown fuses. Try replacing if blown fuses are found. If all fuses are OK then it is very unlikely that all the bulbs are blown.

Interior lights will not come on when opening door

You need to check ALL the door switches that make the light come on....chances are ONE of them is defective. When you open ANY of those doors, all you are really doing is connecting a ground to that light, but if one of them is not working, it doesn't matter how many doors you have open, it won't ever come on...
Depending on how difficult it is to disassemble each door post switch, it might be possible to bypass all the switches and then put each one back into the system individually until you find the culprit. You also need to run a long jumper wire to the negative side of the bulb and make sure it is a known good bulb and a good socket FIRST!
Hope that helps!
