Question about Chrysler LeBaron

I have a 1995 lebaron convertable. The top does not go down. The relays click when pushing the buttons but nothing happens. any help? Gary

The electric tops have a retraction mechanism that is designed to unfold and fold the frame, which is often referred to as the power top. The driver has to push a button, and the top retracts.
If the relay is clicking and you are confirmed then relay is functioning but the motor is not working or it has got weak or it is getting blocked. One of the major problems that electric convertible tops have are failure issues. The electric motor that controls that top can sometimes fail and result in either the top not going up or not being able to go down.
The other thing to check the voltages at the switch.If the top switch is faulty then it will not let the motor to spin or the top to work. check yor fuse panel and inspect the fuse for the conv. top motor and replace if needed. The top motor is in the lower right trunk below the floor covering. the top will not release unless the trunk is closed and locked. often the wire harness in the trunk hinge breaks or the trunk lock motor binds. check these after you make sure the fuses are good. also check for oil under the spare. sometimes the top reservoir leaks, no oil, no operation of top.The convertible switch is located in the center console. Looks like a failed relay:
"I sat in the car and started pushing the roll bar button. We heard a click every time I pushed it. My brother was at the back of the car and was trying to hear where the clicking was coming from. He realized it was coming from a relay switch so he took a screwdriver and tapped the top of the relay and **BAM** everything starts working! So through that we realized it was a bad relay".

on the far right is where the location of the door lock relay.
this could be the problem however there is also in the same area a door lock controler.
could be one or the other ,most relays are the same in a car.some times you can switch places with one relay with another relay in the same general area.you might have to drop down the glove box to access these relays or controler.
because of the clicking sound my bet is on the relay, most cost about ten bucks at any auto parts shop.

How do I remove the windshield wiper arm from a 1995 chrysler lebaron convertable?


To remove the wiper arm from a 91-94 LeBaron Convertible:
1: Remove the blade first. (Hood up was easier on mine)
2: From under the hood, lift arm high enough so you can get the small tab at the base of the arm to slide back toward the windshield about 1/4 inch. The tab won't move back until the arm is lifted enough to make clearance for the tab. With the tab moved back, it will keep the arm from coming back down if done correctly but BE CAREFUL that the blade doesn't spring down onto the windshield or put a towel down in the area to cushion any accidents!
3: With the tab now pushed back and holding the arm from returning down you can now slide (jiggle) the arm off from the shaft. It may seem still locked on but if the tab is out far enough to catch the arm from returing it is far enough and you just need to wiggle just right or maybe spray some WD-40 to help, but you really shouldn't need WD-40
Installation is reverse of these instructions.

If you can get access to the motor try tapping on it while pushing the switch it will usually start working again temporarily, but as far as replacing the regulator assy. Trust me on this you're going to want to take it in and have it done, I've done a few at our shop andit is a huge pain in the rear...lots to re adjust once it's back together due to convertible..I personally hate doing them.. And I'm pretty sure you can only get the motor with the whole regulator assy..

I have a 1995 LeBaron convertible. Sometimes the top goes up and down fine and other times it does nothing.


Yes there is a fuse. It is the easiest thing to check as its right down under the driver's left knee, next to the door, under the steering column. Chances are, if its working sometimes, and sometimes not...its not the fuse. There is a hydraulic pump in the truck that runs the rams that push the top up and down. Take your spare out of the truck, and look back toward where the back of the back seat would be. You'll see it in the middle of of this area about a foot, foot and a half away from the seat. There are two hydraulic lines that run into it. I ran into this same problem and for me it turned out to be the brushes in the motor that ran the pump. If you are technically and mechanically inclined, you can find instructions for rebuilding one with new brushes online...other wise, you might check around with some local shops that say they rebuild starters or alternators. Most of these kind of shops will also work on other types of electric motors (Like the one in the top of the pump the runs the hydraulics). Good luck!

Could be a bad earth or ground the operating motor which is what i would check first then the supply connection multiplugs for burning inside the plugs connections

Check fuses and relays first. Then check the wire connections at the motor. Sometimes the plugs get corroded and just need cleaned up and put back on.

Try pushing down on the hood and keep pulling on the hood release, sometimes they get a little sticky.

What happened on mine was the motor failed.Check behind he rear sear at the motor to see if you have voltage. I was't willing to replace the motor for 300 bucks so i disconnected the rod ends that push and pull the top and made it a manual top.Works fast and not too hard.

Convertible top's motor is out, is there another way to get it up?


you will have to find out where the motor is and disconnect the arm or mechanism on the motor and then you will be able to pull it up manually also just check the fuse for the top motor if you havent already hope that helps.
