It is USUALLY the arm attached to the wiper motor shaft. They make 2! 180 Degrees different.

Pull the wiper arms off. turn the wipers on intermittent so they work once. then put the wiper arms back on in the down position and tighten bolts on wiper arm. They should then be timed correctly. Please rate my post.

The windshield wiper motor for my 1997 dodge caravan turns on but the arms do not move. how do i fix it?

the wiper arms are pressed on by the nut securing them on the stud. Make sure they are snug. If so the studs are stripped meaning a new wiper transmission is needed

This is an old but very current problem also. I just replace my second 97 caravan motor in 6 months because of severe grinding noise and it was the motor both times. I got another re-mfg replacement motor last week and it is totally quiet.
Before you install the crank arm on the motor you operate the wiper switch in all positions to check that the computer is running it intermittently, slow and fast etc. that it and shuts it off at the same position every time. That shut off position is park.
Unplug the external motor connector or fuses. Now push the mechanism arms fully to the right and install the crank arm at two o'clock on the motor shaft, which gives you just enough room to install the hold down nut. Hold one of the metal bars so you don't turn the motor during tightening the nut.
Now reconnect the power plug and test the operation. The motor should shut off with the right end arms fully extended, which, when connected with the blade arm, will make them stop at the bottom of the windshield. Install the driver side wiper arm slightly above level and the left arm 4 inches below that. Don't power tighten yet. Test the operation. If they hit each other adjust one or the other away. This works for most all wiper adjustments. When you get everything looking right and sweeping the full window and not the body. Start tightening and putting every thing back together.
Also clean out the wiper pan and the two drain hoses. The hoses can be pulled loose below the pan. LOL

Last week my 99 dodge caravan wipers got stuck in the upright postion. The motor sounded stripped and so I replaced it. Now I am having trouble getting the timing right. I flipped the imtermittent switch...

Remove the wiper blades and let the motor cycle a few times as if you were actually wiping the windshield. Then turn off the wipers at the control knob or lever. Re-attach the wiper arms so they are parallel with the bottom of the window yet still on the window. Hopefully this will help. Also, since you replaced the motor, did the new motor you installed have intermittent capability like the original one did? If the motor didn't have intermittent capability like the original then this could also be your problem

You probably have a stripped gear for the wipers where the turning motor transfers the rotating arm into a back and forth movement. Hopefully you can find a replacement at your local parts store. If not, try this web site and look for wiper motor assembly http://www.car-part.com

My wind shild wiper are not moving but the motor work..

windshield wipers are connected to whats called a Wiper Transmission. Its the unit that actually engages the wipers to the wiper motor. sometimes that disconnects. also some wiper bolts will loosen right at the base of the wiper arm. its rare that both wiper bolts will loosen at the same time. probably the wiper tranmission assembly somewhere has come apart.
