Cooling transmision lines

Make sure that you use thee correct tools when removing the hose. Important to keep in mind that these lines seize up so you may need to heat the fittings.
When installing new line, good idea to use a little anti-seize and then top off transmission fluid with vehicle running and it has reached operating temperature.

My transmission went on my 2001 Ford Windstar LX. The overdrive light was flashing on and off when I was driving it on the highway and when I came to a stop steam was coming out of the engine compartment....

Steven, The trans cooling lines run from the transmission to the radiator tank. This cools the trans fluid. Making new lines is challenging and takes expierence and special tools. Usually the lines will break where a bracket holds the line to the engine or trans. Look for a rust spot or shinny spot rubbed on the line and that is most likely where the leak is. You may be able to buy this line already made but probabally only from the dealer.

Need to replace the transmission cooling lines from radiator to transmission. Are the ends just screwed into the radiator or are they pressed

they are a type of quick connect fitting. There is a special tool just for these types of fittings. If you remove the plastic cover that goes over the fitting you will see a metal clip in a groove. You can use a small pick to carefully remove the clip (they go flyin and get lost easily but they are available from your local GM dealer or parts store). Once the clip is removed you will be able to pull the line out of the radiator/transmission fitting.

Reinstall the clip after you remove the line. The new line will slide in and click into place.
