A locksmith will be able to get the broken part of the key out and make you several replacement keys. The car is safe to drive. Depending on the key, you may be able to get the broken piece out using a small magnet. Test the remaining part of the key to see if this is possible, If you try to get the piece out yourself, you take a chance of doing further damage and needing to replace the lock cylinder.
However if a bit of the broken key is sticking out of the lock, grasp it firmly with needle-nose pliers and pull it out.If the broken end of the key is visible but you can't grasp it with pliers, try the following superglue method.Use a toothpick to apply a tiny amount of superglue to the broken edge of the key's head.Insert the head into the lock so the broken edges of the key come together. Be extremely careful not to let the glue come into contact with any part of the lock.Hold the key in place firmly for at least 3 minutes to allow the glue to dry and bond the broken pieces.Carefully extract the key from the lock. Avoid unnecessary twisting or turning because this will strain the superglue bond.

Broken key in ignition

This happen to me 2 times already on my sprinter. The first it cost me $250. To get a lock smith to remove and make a new key. The second time I was not close to any lock smith and the key broke In the door. The first thing came to my mind was crazy glue. I when to a local store and brought a tube put a little on the other half of the key and held it inside the key hole for about 2-3 min and pull fast and it came out. The only way to get home was to stick the broken key in the ignition. When I got home I try it again and it work fine. I was able to take both pieces of to the lock smith and got a new key cut. You may have to try a couple of time and be patient it will work.

How to remove ignition lock cylinder, broken key inside

If the key is broken off inside the cylinder and u still have the other half of the key u should be able to insert the remainder of the key to get the ignition to turn forward. You'll have to remove the covers surrounding the upper half of the steering column and you will see a small pin on the cylinder to push to remove the inner part with the broken key. the key has to be in the on position to remove the cylinder and just reverse the removal to put it back together.

Bmw 740 il key broke in half at remote part car

Yes it is, but just having the key near the ignition is enough to start the car. If you can turn the ignition with the broken key, hold the broken part in your hand and see if it will start. Hopefully the chip isn't damaged. I know that when GM keys are replaced, they glue the old key under the dash to make it work. Hope this helps.

How to fix ignition switch in 2000 toyota landcruiser - key turns, but it feels like mechanism is broken inside and starter won't engage. Any possibility of fix, or is replacement necessary. And how...

Replacement is necessary. To remove it you need to remove the trim around the switch. All toyota ignition switches have a metal tab that needs to be pushed up and the key turned to remove it. Then it slides out. About half an hour to an hour job depending on your skill level.
