It is usually one of the O2 sensors is bad/i had the same problem with my 2001 dodge grand caravan sport/it may not be the muffler or the catalytic converter necessarily. take the car to either autozone or oreilly's and have them put the engine code reader on it/its free and only takes a minute/ my car has (2) O2 sensors. it would be best to give your VIN number to the dealer so they can tell you which of 4 possible O2 sensors you will need. then you can compare and shop online for the part. Some O2 sensors have 2 wires, some 3, and some 4 so there isn't just 1 part it could be. some O2 sensors also have very short wiring harnesses, so if you get one, make sure the wiring on it is long, not short, or the mechanic is going to have to rig it to make it work.

2001 dodge caravan. Changed engine. Ran a few

defective catalytic convertor. It may be plugged up.Make sure ALL the exhaust line from intake manifold(at engine block) to final exhaust pipe are not clogged up.You have reverse exhaust pressure going back towards engine manifold.

Had exhaust manifold replaced since then my 2001 caravan bucks and blows black smoke little to no power

if you replaced the manifold because it was cracked the look for a plugged cat convertor..the cracked manifold was probably letting the exhaust escape..now it builds too much back pressure

2003 Dodge grand caravan 6chlyder having black smoke. what should i due to stop it.

Black smoke is caused by an overly rich fuel/air mixture. This will cause your Dodge to use excess fuel and can damage the catalytic converter. The Check Engine light should be on at this time. I suggest you take it to a professional for repair.

I have a diesel engine that expells white smoke for 5 to 10 miniuts after start up? The exhaust also smells rich with fuel? I bought the truck used and am trying to fix the problems! Please help.

When an engine expels black smoke it means that the piston rings are going and is consuming oil. And when the color of smoke is white the engine is consuming more fuel. Both are harmful. Black to the engine and pocket while white to the pocket. It seems that the injector need careful attention.
Cold engine does expel white smoke initially. When the temperature rises to normal working temperature the smoke stops. This is normal in your case. 5 to 10 minutes to warm up is normal for any diesel engine. But any thing more than that needs attention.

I just bought a dodge dakota 1997 smoke is coming out the muffler what could this be?

Well is the smoke coming out the exhaust BLUE or BLACK if Blue then its due to engine burning oil ..ie,,Piston rings /Valve seals etc etc
If Black then its fuel to much fuel going in engine and not being burnt.
So let me know more infomation and what colour smoke it is then we can get the problem sorted..

Your engine is toast. The black smoke indicates more than likely your valve seals are leaking oil into the combustion chamber or the piston rings are shot.
