Is it safe to drive a car when it leaks out water .Car is not overheating.

It is never recommended to drive a car that is leaking coolant. However, if the leak is small, and you keep close tabs on the coolant levels to avoid running low on coolant, you can drive for short periods of time until repairs can be implemented. Obviously, larger leaks may make this impossible. Also, remember to keep the proper ration of anti-freeze to water in the coolant when you top off. Even if it is not winter, the engine parts need the anti-freeze to prevent corrosion and to lubricate the water pump. Going with straight water, or an overly diluted mixture will cause more problems for you down the road.

A spanner symbol appears when I switch the engine on, the car beeps a couple of times, then symbol goes, beeps stop and I drive. The coolant seems to need replacing very frequently, but it's too wet w

Your water pump is bad, better fix it asap or your engine will mess up and cost more money.Look under vehicle after it has been parked awhile and you will see leak on ground.

Coolant comes out top of radiator after driving

Start by replacing the radiator cap, the spring may have weakened from age and this allows coolant to escape at lower temps. As far as the level sensor goes they are very prone to false signals of low coolant, replace it or ignore it, you choice.

Low coolant level in 2003 yukon after radiator flush

When coolant gets drained and refilled air bubbles are often trapped inside the cooling system. If you imagine pouring a soft drink and you see all the little bubbles sticking to the sides of your glass, you'll get the idea. After driving those bubbles eventually "burp" their way up to the top, and consequently the coolant level drops. Top it up one more time and my guess is you'll be good to go.

I just bought a 1991 camero, it passed the clean driving test. I took it out for my first drive and the sound of the muffler changed. I stopped, turned the car off and it wouldnt start again.5 minutes...

I have had difficulty with this kind of thing since I have owned my 1991 camaro, back in 1996. First of all, the engine runs hot because the sensor opens the thermostat at a higher temperature. I fixed this by hardwiring the fan so that it is always on when the car is running. Second, I had to replace the water pump because it was not getting the coolant around the engine. Third, make sure your oil is not leaking out. Fourth, I have developed a leak in the gasket at the intake manifold, which is leaking coolant. I originally had a radiator that had so much **** in it that the coolant had trouble getting tot he engine. I believe that's what caused the gasket problem (just conjecture). The gasket will be taken care of during my smog repairs, which will be paid for by the state of California.
The latest thing that happened was that my battery and ignition decoder went out at the same time, causing clicking first and then not allowing me to start the car at all. With this ammunition, you can go armed with some things that may be wrong. Get a good mechanic, and see what he or she thinks (preferably someone who has worked on older cars and electronics).

did you by accident put the head gaskests on the wrong side, because they are different, the head blot pattern will line up but the water jacket ports ares lightly different, you may have blocked off cooling ports tot he cylinder heads which will cause the overheating condition you speak of...

Red tempeture light blink all the time

STOP DRIVING IT! Immediately! You are either Out of coolant (check bottle, top left of engine compartment) OR, you are overheating it BADLY. If the coolant is full, you are ruining your engine by driving it. I'd suggest taking it to a shop that specializes in VW.. Likely a Waterpump. (timing belt will need to be removed to access the waterpump)

How to change water pump on 1995 3.5 dodge intrepid. it is trying to freeze up and pulls engine down and runs hot

turn off radio so you wont lose code.disconnect negative battery cable.remove drive belt.get a drain pan to catch coolant.place it under the radiator.then open the radiator drain on the lower right side of radiator.then remove coolant pressure cap and open thermostat bleed valve.BESURE TO PUT COOLANT SOME WHERE SAFE .BECAUSE KIDS AND PETS WILL DRANK IT.know you going to have to move the timing belt.besure to get your engine on TDC AT NUMBER 1 FIRING POSITION.REMOVE THE WATER PUMP BOLTS.AND PUMP.THROW AWAY THE O-RING SEAL.CLEAN GASKET SURFACE DO NOT SCRATCH.INSTALL NEW O-RING DIP IT IN COOLANT.DONT GET DIRT OR GREASE ON IT OR IT WILL LEAK.THEN YOU PUT .PUMP AND O-RING TO THE ENGINE BLOCK.INSTALL THE MOUNTING BOLTS.TORQUE TO 105 INCH POUNDS.THEN YOUR TURN PUMP WITH HANDS MAKE ITS NOT TO TIGHT AND CLEAR. INSTALL THE TIMING BELT LOOK AT TIMING MARKS.GET A HAYNES MANUAL YOU NEED PICTURES TO SEE THE TIMING MARKS.BECAUSE IF TIMING OFF.YOUR ENGINE IS DAMAGED.WHEN YOU GET TIMING RIGHT THEN YOU CLOSE RADIATOR DRAIN.THEN YOU OPEN THERMOSTAT BLEED VALVE.GET A 1/4 INCH CLEAR HOSE ABOUT 48 INCHES LONG.YOU PUT ONE END ON BLEED VALVE AND THE OTHER END IN A EMPTY CONTAINER.TO KEEP COOLANT OFF THE DRIVE BELTS.NOW YOU START FILLING WITH COOLANT BY POUR IT IN THE COOLANT PRESSURE BOTTLE UNTIL A STEADY STREAM OF COOLANT RUN OUT THE THERMOSTAT BLEED VALVE THROUGH THE CLEAR HOSE.GENTLY SQUEEZE TOP RADIATOR HOSE UNTIL AIR OUT OF THE SYSTEM.CLOSE BLEED VALVE REMOVE CLEAR HOSE.FINISH ADDING COOLANT TO COOLANT PRESSURE BOTTLE UNTIL YOU GET TO THE RIGHT LEVEL.PLACE CAP BACK ON COOLANT BOTTLE.RECONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY.START ENGINE.LET IDLE CHECK FOR LEAKS. IF OVERHEATS YOU STILL HAVE AIR IN SYSTEM.LET IT SET A WHILE ADD MORE COOLANT IF NEEDED DONT DRIVE UNTIL IT STOP OVERHEATING.IF OVERHEAT WHILE IDLING WAIT AWHILE CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.DONT OPEN TOO SOON YOU WILL GET SCALDED.KEEP DOING THIS WHEN IT STOP OVER HEATING AIR IS OUT AND YOU CAN DRIVE IT.

Adding coolant to a 1998 Jaguar XK8

if the coolant light is on or comes on when driving you MUST let the car cool down at lest 1 hour before doing anything, after this cool down time lift the hood [u.s.a.] or bonnet [uk] looking from the front of the car on the right hand side towards the back of the engine compartment is the coolant header tank, about 5inch square black in color [u.s.a.] colour [uk] with a large screw top and some rubber pipes coming from it,this should be topped up with coolant right to the neck of the screw cap when you remove the cap to top up the coolant unscrew it slowly as it may be under pressure you don't want hot 212F[u.s.a.] 100C [uk] coolant in your face do you.good luck.
