New carburetors are not always perfected....you will need to tune it to match your car....i see you replaced the magnetic switch...thats okay...but the real problem you have now is you are running rich of fuel..thats why you got black smoke from your exhaust....you need to leaner your carb...also adjust the auto choke...

I have a 1958 ford f-100 idles fine when i give it gas i can press pedal half way down but if i go to floor it sounds like a major air leak and the truck dies

You need to rebuild the carburetor is my opinion based on your symptoms. The carb rebuild kit comes with full instructions and you can get it here.

When i started car and attempted to press accelarator nothing happened why?

There is a sensor in your gas pedal that could have gone bad. An employee at O'rielley had told me there could be a recall on this part so contact a dealer.

1999 f 250 powerstroke diesel , when i press down accelarator there is no response, truck starts and idles but no response when i step on accelarator

look behind your accel. pedal if there is a wire harness there check to make sure that it hasnt come out or is not plugged all the way in. if it is plugged in then you may need a new pedal. if it does not have a electronic pedal you may need a new ecm . if you can have someone plug it in to a diagnostic and this will tell you for sure.
