This is an interference engine and if the chain breaks you could have problems with the valves and pistons.

I just paid $400 for a alternator for 2004 Chevy Cavalier & $125 for new battery so $525 for parts and labor. Did i get ripped off?? My coworkers say i over paid and got screwed. I think i paid a fair...

You can look up the price of parts on the internet
or stop by an auto parts store or call them for a price.

I don't see a reman alternator for your car that even gets to $150.00 so screwed you are

Now the trouble that there is to install may be the reason
for the cost ,when you have a transverse motor & it is jambed
into the passenger fender

If it was out in the open & easy to get to, you got taken 3 times over

Keep in mind those folks with opinions most likley never change
their oil let along anything else

How much should it cost to replace a timing belt in a 2004 acura tl? Also mechanic says to replace water pump, and other thing while back there. Is that neccasry?

I just had my 2004 TL's timing belt replaced in Jan 2010 by the dealer and the total repair for belt, water pump and all other normally suggested parts came to $859.90. My car had 139,990 miles and the work was done at the Acura dealer in Jacksonville Florida.

Rough idle timing chain? 2004 chevy cavalier

Sounds like a 2.4 Quad four engine? If so the chain has either different colored links marked links that have to be aligned with the marks on the cam gear[s] and the crank gear.A chiltons book will show you how.

How much would it cost for new rear brakes for 1996 chevy cavlier. was quoted $160-$180. Sounds high. is it? thank you!

depends on where you live... labor should be about 1 hr to 1.5hrs. parts should be about 50-60 dollars.. so it doesn't sound too bad. Calif. labor rates are as high as 125 per hour! not a bad deal out here...

1996 Chevy Cavalier

your car does not have a timing belt it has a chain. but yes if the pump is driven by timing belt and it starts leaking the coolant gets on belt and it will fail. if your car has the 2.4 engine the water pump runs off of the timing chain and depending on mileage it would be smart to go ahead and replace it since it will be tore down anyway will save on labor

What is the average cost for labor and parts to fix the exhaust?

It depends on the area your in as to how much labor and parts are being charged.
here in waco tx. a factory installed exhaust would be around 600 - 800 dollars,a aftermarket exhaust would be about half that.
