The thermostat on my honda car is always on the middle my radiator losses water fast, why does this happen?

Car runnung hot not getting water to the engine


not that many things to check here if this happens. Either the water pump is not working correctly (i've even seen the impellers melting due to lack of coolant), the thermostat is jammed closed (which won't allow the coolant to exit the engine and go to the radiator) and needs replacing, or the radiator is clogged up and needs to be cleaned or replaced. In any case here though, you will need to drain the coolant to inspect the parts. Usualy there is a petcock on the radiator to drain it all, but will take a while. If all else fails, you can always unplug the lowest radiator hose to empty the system, but have a big bucket ready cause this will cause the coolant to gush out pretty fast.

1989 Honda Accord losing power and heats up too fast...what can i do???


Mr. BEY the problem you have with your car is as follows: as I believe the loss of power drops soon after the the temperature risen. If is like that then check your water circulation. First remove your thermostat and by leaving it without thermostat start the engine after you put water in radiator and rev it at approximately 1500-2000 revs and follow the water circulation as you have the radiator cap off. If the water circulates according to rev then the problem is not on the water pump. If the water does not circulated then the water pump even is not leaking or is not noisy, the propeller inside is broken due to corrosion and you have to change it after you remove the timing belt and renew everything.Also after you check for the water circulation and is none of the above,Put the radiator cap on and drive it in some distance following the temperature and the power of your car. If there is no problem then surely you have a problem with your thermostat and you have to change it. Remember anything you do by renewing anything put the recommended coolant and bleed the system . Also I do not know the condition of your coolant and how often you do service, I recommend to check also your radiator if is working ok and is not full or part blogged. If is none of the above and the high temperature comes after driving and the loss of power is first,Check your exhaust blowing whether you have any buffer box blogged.

COULD BE THERMOSTAT IF TOP RADIATOR HOSE IS NOT HOT AND BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE GOING TO WATER PUMP IS HOT THE THERMOSTAT STICKING PARTIALLY CLOSE.IF TOP HOSE IS HOT THE RADIATOR,ENGINE BLOCK HEATER CORE NEED FLUSHING OUT.IF WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE LEAKING REPLACE WATER PUMP, FAULTY WATER PUMP WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO OVER HEAT.REPLACE RADIATOR CAP MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 50 / 50 MIX SOLUTION ANTIFREEZE AND WATER IN COOLANT SYSTEM. My Engineer removed my thermostat and said its not needed in our weather. that it will cause overheating when faced with traffic pressure


Hello ayo, that information is simply not true. I think the Honda engineers know more about their cars than yours does. If your cooling system is clean and all the componets are working as designed, the thermostat should not need to be removed. In fact, i have seen many cases that when the thermostat is removed, it causes the engine to run ever hotter and overheat. The reason being, with the thermostat out, the coolant is circulating faster, it passes through the radiator so fast that the air coming through the radiator fins don't have time to cool it before it re-enters the engine. If you are in extreme heat this is what i suggest you do. Thermostats come in different heat ranges, which means they open when the coolant reaches a certain temperature. You can replace yours with a cooler one. If you have a 200 degree install a 180, or one that is 15-20 degrees cooler. Always run a clean mixture of 50/50 coolant. keep your radiator clean inside & outside and the cooling fan blades clean and turning freely...you should have no problems.

Overheating real fast and I have already replaced the radiator


If your car is overheating extremely fast - the first thing to check is that your thermostat is opening. If it doesn't open then the car will overheat very quickly. When the thermostat opens water will be able to circulate through the radiator, and be cooled.

Overheating engine


Was the thermostat put in backwards? I know this is a silly question, but I've seen it happen. The water pump will fight it if it is. Another thing are the coolant passages, are they flushed out? Also, if that fan clutch is the original one, I would go ahead and replace that as insurance against the water pump breaking.

1990 Honda Prelude Overheating


Taking the thermostat out would be an overall bad idea because the coolant will flow too fast and it will not have a chance to be cooled down by the radiator.
